Can anyone access the stories on Fictionmania?
The site is the there but all of the stories seem to return page
errors.
Trying to see if it is my ISP or if something is wrong.

As of Thursday 8-21-08 I have been unable to browse any story, of
any size on fmstories.com. I have been a regular visitor for years
and never had a problem like this. I have a new Apple MAC that uses
SAFARI with a DSL hookup. I have been trying at varying times
throughout each day. I can access pages on the fictionmania.com
domain (although they are very slow to load) but the banner ads and
stories, which or on fmstories.com remain inaccessible and I am
unable to ping the server listed at that IP (although pinging is
likely disabled at the server level). I think my Internet Service
Provider (I'm on Bellsouth) decided to block the "fmstories.com"
site. Someone there may needs to look into this.
How many of you who can't access FM are Bellsouth users?
Could a proxy server software set help and which is best for my
system?

I seriously doubt BellSouth would block fictionmania...
Clear your cache before you do anything else. Go here:
http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahic.html
to find ow.
If that doesn't work I suppose you could find a nice proxy site (no
need for any software just type proxy into google search to find a
proxy)

fictionmania.com = slow (even for fictionmania), but at least it's
not timing-out.
fmstories.com = seems to be working fine for me at the present
time.
I'm not a Bellsouth user, however.

I've cleared my cache and still have the same problem.
I have been able to get onto the FM message board and talk to a few
people with the same problem. All seem to be Bellsouth ISP users.
It is now a lot harder to get tech help since AT&T took them
over.
I'm looking into proxy software. Any recommendations that work well
with a Mac osx Tiger system.

yep, AT&T customer (former bellsouth) here, can't get to
fmstories.com, just having to replace the URL "fmstories.com" to
"fictionmania.com" to get story links to work...kind've a hassle
but what can ya do?

>>> "... but what can ya do?"
change ISPs... unless you're stuck like I am... with only one
high-speed provider to choose from. Voting with your pocket-book
works well, as long as there are competitors to choose from. :-)
I'm with daw in the thought that a proxy site may work better than
software - easier to use, and it doesn't care what OS you're using.
Or you could do what coolguy is doing.

No proxy here, satellite IP, same problem. Okay, there aren't that
many stories there of the type I like (mostly just crossdressing
stuff that is sometimes as implausible as the transformation ones,
though not for scientific reasons but for facts of human
psychology), but there are some.

After speaking to a AT&T tech on the 8-25-08 I was informed
that AT&T was not in the habit of Blocking web sites. I should
have asked if that included blocking content. Since Bellsouth was
of no help and in fact was the source of the problem I went to
several message boards and came away with a better idea of what was
going on from other bellsouth users. Bellsouth/AT&T blocked
access to fmstories.com because there was another site on the
shared server that they were blocking due to pfihsing.
Might I suggest that the people running the FictionMania server
create an alternate path to a new address for fmstories in order to
restore connectivity.
Because along with the other stuff I found on the message boards
found this thread:

Not been able to open any story at Fictionmania for several days
now. Anyone else got the same problem?

Yep. They say they are going to get a separate server just for FM
REALLY SOON NOW. There were some problems with processing the
payment for that, it seems. Once fmstories.com gets its own server
with a new address, the anti-phishing block should no longer apply
and access should be no problem.

Doesn't anyone here read the Fictionmania Hyperboard? It is all
explained there!
A phishing site shared the same server that Fictionmania stores its
stories on. Bellsouth blocked it. FM is in the process of moving
it's stories to it's own server.
If anyone would just check in a Fictionmania you would know this.

Well ... thanks for the read. I'm ANOTHER bellsouth custoner who
can't get at the stories.
Looks like ATT is the problem and we'll just have to wait until
their new server is up.
At least I now know it's not my browser or my machine, it's Herr
Bellsouth!

This is an old thread. The reason fictionmania won't load is
because their server went the way of the Dodo. To find out what
actually happened refer to this thread:

Just so everyone knows there is a way to view lots of stories,
simply:
1.Go to google
2.Click on advanced search
3.Go to 'Search within a site or domain'
4.Type in: http://www.fmstories.com/stories/
5.Then click on 'repeat the search with the omitted results
included'
Then you should have a list of stories you can access with their
main theme e.g. bodyswap
Hope this helped
