I miss FB too, I still check it out every day or so despite not
posting much anymore and wishing it had more for my tastes their. I
miss it and hope it is back soon. Neither Zach nor CountD have
visited #TGroleplay on IRC (dalnet server) since FB went down
either.
I like FB and want it back soon.
(even though the recent trend to use the forum more as a chat room
than a FB discussion was annoying).

We just have to wait and see. Unless countds info is on his Whois
info.

It's still down. Has anyone made contact with CountD or Zach yet?

My friend Aether made contact with Zach, who told him to ask
CountD.

Well early this morning someone using the nickname 'testing' posted
on the old site this "publicly available whois data says
torgunov.denis@gmail.com" don't know if its legit or not....

Still nothing happening. Can Zach tell you how to reach CountD?

Still nothing...
I am now EXTREMELY worried that the site is dead for good.
|
From: guest (Brayn)
, 137 months, post #148 |
The site isn't dead, Zach is still here and answeres his emails. As
I've said before. Worst case scenario, Zachs' only lost the host,
he still has the crappy transform.to host and can reload FB onto
that if necessary. He's got a full copy of the site backed up on
his own system.

If something isn't done soon many of the writers will assume the
site is dead and go elsewhere. You can't have this kind of downtime
on the internet. People will assume you are unreliable and leave.

Many of the best Fiction Branches writers have stuck with the site
through thick and thin, so a little excessive downtime wont drive
them away. WHEN it comes back up they'll still be there consistant
as ever.

@oberon21 - I agree that some of the more faithful FB writers will
stick with the website for good and for bad, but the thing is, I
think, with interactive stories you also need sheer numbers so that
there's some variety in the content being created. Otherwise you
end up with what happened to FB, that there's just a small group of
people creating long story lines collaborating with each other and
pretty much ignoring everything else.

I hope FB's return, there were many storylines there I was
following. I had contributed a very posts myself, but had the
impression there wasn't any following for them, nevertheless, I
hope it survives.

http://archive.org/web/web.php
At the link above I have found some of the old story lines and was
thinking of reposting some of them on another site so that we can
add to them again.
Somewhere like writing.com , what does everyone else think. I like
everyone else hopes the site comes back but it does seem less
likely which each day that passes and this seemed a way of keeping
alive some how.
I will not post what I have found if people do not wish me to as I
said this is only in the idea stage so far.
As of posting this the archive goes back to November 10 2010.
Peace Out
Scarlett

Scarlett,
It would be difficult to comply with writing.com's copyright policy
by copy+pasting content from archive.org without the original
author's permissions. Plus writing.com is far too restrictive
compared to FB and BEARCHIVE.
The best bet here is to ask Adama (BEADDVENTURE ADMIN) if he has
some space on his server to host FB in concurrency with BEA. It's
also possible or at least worth investigating to see if Zach and
Adama are happy to "merge" FB's storylines into bea.

Brayn,
No problem as I said it was just an idea. I thought there might be
issues with it. Hopefully there is something that can be done. I am
starting to suffer from withdrawal.
Peace Out

Fair enough.
The biggest problem here is a host, Zach can easily have hte site
back up in a few hours if he had a host somewhere that would work.
Ask around your fellow FBers and see if they have any hosting space
(even temporarily, say a month or so) for FB and then put them in
touch with Zach.
We cna roll back to transform.to but the size problem, FB is too
big for transform.to now, so it may just end up with those problem
all over again (the ones that forced Zach to move to countd.eu).

How large is the FB site?
|
From: guest (Brayn)
, 137 months, post #159 |
Zach mentioned this on the old FB forums a while back, easily over
1 gig if memory serves easily over 1 gig. closer to 2.

Also.. just did a whois. Looks like FB is down because countd.eu no
longer belongs to CountD. I'm getting EURID domain registra now as
the host of the domain.
