Kalafior ... you could still create new story lines on the Fiction
Branches site. Just start them under the "And Now For Something
Completely Different" episode. That's what I did ... at least a
dozen times. You don't need a brand new site to do that.
Although, if Zach can't fix what happened, that might be
unavoidable.

Hey, I'd just like to point out the old site's still up and the old
stories are still up on it, (you just need the old web addresses)
so if someone is making FB3 you can salvage everything.

I fear I may have introduced panic when I was trying to provide a
form of reassurance. My bad.
Zach does keep a copy of the database for FB personally (at least
he usually does), if worse comes to work ans the site is gone, he
may have lost maybe at most a week's worth of episodes, that's it.
But if it's a simple case of a server snafu or a domain lease
expiring nothing is lost. Just give it a bit more time to wait for
Zach and then we'll see what we have to do.

Yeah, I noticed that. It was down last night and it's still down
now.

Down for me too...
If anyone needs to scratch that itch I've got a hobby built site at
enterthemall.com/mcph/ it's no FB but you can fool around on it and
do what you like with your own branches.
The old FB forum is still around too, on the old server.
I mostly lurk on FB but it being down is driving me nuts.

DL, I posted an episode on your site. I hope you like it.
FB is still down.

Guys, this has happened a few times now on the new server. I'd say
hte server is probably down for maintanance. Only start panicing if
it's down for more then a week. Give it a day or two and it'll be
back, it's been out for 48 hours now... tops.

I'm not disagreeing about the "nobody panic" statement, but It has
been down since Saturday. 96 hours minimum.

I don't think the site is down for maintenance. I mean, it wouldn't
take nearly a week, would it?

From: guest (DDs for life)

Yeah, I think it is clear we are well past server maintenance.
This cannot be good!

Sites kinda back. Domains connecting to something now. So there's a
bit of update. In any case Zach always has backups if I recall.

The site is still down for me. Every time I go to the website, it
tells me that it's "unable to connect".
The last time the site went down, I believe that Count D, or
whatever his name is, said that he's the one to contact if there's
any future malfunctions with the site, instead of Zach. But ... I
don't remember how to contact him.

I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but is there some
sort of way to prevent this in the future? I'm sure the community
is big enough to at least donate for a sever or something of that
nature. I'm no computer whiz but there has to be something we could
do.

Idk. Yearly cost of the server space or server+bandwidth could be
prohibitive, plus how many people do we have that would spend money
on this?
I run a server for myself, but that's a hobby and I host several
sub sites on my main one. The one I'm using for my own little hobby
story site is actually a spare domain name I'm not using but will
probably keep anyway for stuff like this.
I'm not familiar with how fiction branches operates on the lower
end of the code, just the overall concept, so I don't know how much
work/space it actually needs to operate...and you can never
guarantee 100% up-time. unless you're a wizard. even godaddy,
gmail, and twitter have their down-times.
A51, do you remember where count's information might be? we could
look for a cached message somewhere if it was on countd.eu , like
google or archive.org.

From: guest (Brayn)

CountD has already donated a server to Zach for FB to take it off
transform.to which was an ancient box that was failing under load.
If you need CountD, i suggest you just whoise his domain name.
countd.eu and see what his email address is. I've got Zach's, I
haven't messaged him though because this is a server issue and is
out of his control.

DL, he never wrote any story episodes and only a few forum posts,
so I don't think there would be any caches to find.
