This is a webcomic in which the artist tries to depict the consequences of someone like him (22 year old graphics design student called Jan) becoming female over night. As he tries to be realistic, this is no comedy or action loaded story. There is no magic or science fiction apart from the char ...more

I thought there was an earlier thread about this webcomic, but if there was, it's not attached to the posting.

http://www.metamorphose.org/entry/show.htp?rowid=7973&se0=entry&se1=show&sas=se0%3Dentry%26se1%3Dsearch%26%26q1%3DOh%2520nein%2521%2520Ich%2520bin%2520ein%2520M%25E4dchen%2521%2520

Curiously, I found that page by a title search, but could not find it when I went to "Categories: Webcomics"list.

Anyway, my question is: I recall someone saying they wanted to provide an English translation, and was hoping that the project was coming along.

I've been following the comic. The link on this site isn't the most current. The comic is updated every monday on this message board. This story is exactly my cup of tea. Right now Jan is trying to convince her school friends who she is. The comic has been going for over a year and it's only the 3rd or 4rth day.

@guest
Please read the first post in the thread you linked.

@Masashi
The webcomic category is listed in that entry. That must be a bug. Maybe related to the non-ASCII characters in the title?

I don't remember anyone talking about a translation

CJ: Could this thread please be attached to the title entry?

Guest & Magma: Thanks!

> I don't remember anyone talking about a translation

I know I read that on some forum; I sorta think it was here, but I could be mistaken. If not, would anyone fluent in German be interested in taking up the idea? (I don't mean it has to be with the artwork all re-ballooned; just a prose dialogue translation to follow along while looking at the comics.)

Strange... it doesn't show up in any of the categories it's under.

>>> "CJ: Could this thread please be attached to the title entry?"

Sure, since this thread is about translation of the content. A question that is sure to be repeated.

I sent the author an email.
He gave his ok to link directly to his comicforum thread from metamorphose.org.

He furthermore told me that he plans to start releasing an English version some time next month.

Hi,
just to explain the publishing mode:
Jan is updating the Comicforum thread weekly with a new page (at the moment, he is much involved in the English translation, though, so the updating might not be as regular as in the past).
At Comicgate, we upload not pagewise, but chapterwise, so that people can read the whole story without having to fight their way through all the comments in between the single pages at Comicforum.
The starting point is here (if it's okay to post a link?): http://www.comicgate.de/component/option,com_ponygallery/Itemid,83/func,viewcategory/catid,7/

Hey guys,
the English translation has taken much time. Some native speakers and fans of "Oh nein! Ich bin ein Mdchen!" were kind enough to help.
Now, Jan has finally finished this huge task. :)

Thanks to a name suggestion from one of the native speakers, the English version is called "She !s me" (the literal translation would be "Oh no! I'm a girl!").

We will upload one translated chapter every few days until the comic has catched up with the German edition (at the moment: third chapter of act three). The first chapter of the first act is online now.

This is the direct link to the English comic pages:

If you want to read some words from and about the artist, click here:

Jan designed a desktop wallpaper, so please feel free to download it.

Please remember: The webcomic is still ongoing, so don't expect a completed story after a few weeks of uploading the English chapters.

Enjoy! :)

Comicgate, thanks very much. I got enough from reading the German to enjoy it, but with the English it's even better (I mean, easier for me to read). Looking forward to more.

I puzzled out the German more or less, but the English is easier for me too (been a long while since I've had to use German and most of my vocabulary is gone -- and I don't know today's slang). One thing I like is how the new girl's face is just a tad homely and all the cuter for it, what the French would call a _jolie laide_, I think -- and her body quite nice. She's a scrumptious little bit of crumpet (now going a bit Brit), and suddenly BEING her is quite the situation.

New english chapter just got uploaded.

CJ: The page says it is listed as being under the three categories of: Gender, Male to Female and Webcomic -- but the title does not appear when you go to any of those categories.

I finally found the page only by searching "mdchen" with the diacritical mark. A search of "madchen" brought no results.

I guess I should add that I just submitted the English translation webcomic "She is Me."

Submitting the 11/20/08 question below again, hoping for an answer this time. An update on the question is that the English translation "She is Me" is now in the archive, but like its German version it is not included on any of the Gender, Male to Female and Webcomic "category" pages.

Once it disappears from the "What's New" page, the only way to access it will be by doing a word search.

How many more entries are likewise not on their "category" page lists?

Well, "Oh Nein, Ich ein Mädchen!" has finished and I'm not sure it's worth waiting for an English translation. I thought I was reading (the best i could translate) a drama but it ended up being dark, depressing and nihilistic. I get the feeling the author got tired of telling the story so he provided an ironic and mean spirited ending. Of course, a lot could be lost in translation so I don't want to disparage the author without fulling understanding his intent. However, after following this comic for a couple of years the ending just felt wrong. Too depressing and cruel.

Didn't they stop translating it more than a year ago? I don't remember there being any translations past the same certain point in the comic for quite a long while now. I would like for them to finish but it seemed like they dropped translating it at that point and never resumed.
