As Timber says, if you do not stop the torrent when you reach 100%,
you will seed it to other people. Since I've been DL-ing I've seen
two peers reach 100% and disappear. This is extremely frustrating
since most of the peers in the swarm are well below 20% done.
If you've got 100% of the file, and it is still intact on your hard
drive, you can restart the torrent and upload to other folks in the
swarm,
I've got some spare bandwidth, and a computer that spends most of
its time doing batch renders of Maya files or folding proteins.
If I get to 100% (which seems pretty unlikely) I will recompile the
torrent and host it for a few weeks.

When I get it to 100, I'll seed, but only when I'm home and
overnight. I'll be turning my computer off for 8 hours a day.
Still, that's a goodly ammount.
Will the seeding keep working even after Timber pulls the plug?

Timber I will make sure when it gets to a 100% I will seed and try
to spread it so everybody else can download it.

Okay, I keep getting an error that says 'Files missing from job'.
Is the server still online?

Although I've only downloaded about 20 files, it is seeding for
those and some scattered pieces of others. I don't power down, so
it shouldn't be interrupted for a few days at least, give or take
another download.

is there a special patch to be able to play the files
|
From: guest (Miss Pinky)

Some take realplayer, some take windows media. Though the files may
appear on your computer as soon as they start downloading, you
can't play them until they're fully downloaded. I'm at about 60%
and only about 1/3 of the vids will even start. It takes time.
Lots of time.

I'm not even that close yet. I'm at 14% and I still have two weeks
left to finish downloading these files. I try to keep my computer
on for the longest time everyday but I have other family members
who have to use this computer too. Every night I try to leave the
computer on for at least four hours every night. I can't wait til
it gets at 100% then I will a very happy man.

Well Miss Pinky, if you're already at 60%, you're cruising along
pretty quickly since you only started it a few days ago. If you're
still using utorrent, you can set priority on files to finish
before others if you're eager to watch something, instead of
getting random pieces based on whatever the client wants to get.
Bodyswap1, you could always just let the torrent continue in the
background even if other people are using the computer unless it
just consumes that much in resources. Of course, if you started
torrenting 5 months ago when I brought it online, you'd be done 4.5
months ago and would have been happy all this time.
fitzy, make sure your codecs are all current. You may want to try
vlc player, along with the most recent divx codecs. I believe that
plays everything that is in the torrent.
Only a few more days for my temporary server before I take it all
down. Hopefully someone else will recompile the torrent and
continue making it available. I'm disappointed I didn't have time
to finish assembling that second megatorrent I was going to make
which would have been about another 30 gigs of files I've got.

I'll look into setting priority, to see if I can do that without
crashing the dang thing. I've wanted most to see 'Berta' and 'Les
Vampyres', though Sexual Limits is good too.
If you leave it up through the weekend, I'll definitely get it all.
:-D

Woo! 6 people seeding, and the data is FLYING! I don't know if I
have really good internet or what, but I should be done by tomorrow
night.
At least, with the good stuff. I set Cinderella Boy and other anime
at lowest priority. Its just not my scene.

Well, the more people that are on to share, the faster it goes for
everyone, even if it is a huge ass torrent.
Also, I was searching for something else unrelated and came across
something that looks like my torrent with an identical size and
file list on torrentbox. I have no idea who is responsible for this
but does anyone know if it is active and working? Might save work
for someone else if the torrent has already been recompiled.

res, would the torrent that isn't working the one on torrentbox? If
it isn't the one you're referring to, you should check message 105
of this thread. If it is, oh well.
2 more days before I take my machine offline. Happy downloading.

I should have it by tomorrow evening, I'm at almost 90% before I
hit the sack for tonight.
I'll put what I can on YouTube as I'm able.
|

Unfortunately that might be kind of pointless, because youtube
takes so many things down so often.
Anyway, what I came here to post was instructions I found to set up
a torrent in uTorrent (so that this can continue to be seeded). It
looks surprisingly easy, but I can't do this myself because I don't
have the whole thing.
1. File > Create new Torrent
2. Select the files and or directories (or in other words select
the Server folder this whole torrent is saved to, no more no less)
3. Trackers: This is probably the hard part for most people. But
its pretty easy, just put in one of the popular public trackers.
You can use one or more trackers, but in general one is enough.
Here are some good trackers you can use:
http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce
http://www.torrent-downloads.to:2710/announce
http://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce
udp://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce
http://www.sumotracker.com/announce
Put one of these in the tracker box
4. Do NOT tick the private torrent box (unless youre using a
private tracker)
5. Save the torrent and send it to your friends
instructions taken from here
.
There's also an in depth but much more longwinded explanation here
. It's probably unnecessary though.

Miss Pinky, How did you get your torrent download to go so fast? I
have a red sign at the bottom of my utorrent saying that I need to
open a port so others can connect to me. How do I do that?
|
From: guest (Miss Pinky)
, 197 months, post #159 |
I didn't open any 'ports', your firewall settings might be set too
high, Mine are currently disabled. Here's what I did:
1. Bought a 80mb external hard drive.
2. Installed it.
3. Installed uTorrent on my computer.
4. Started torrenting directly into the drive.
As for how it went so fast? A combination of things. First is good
DSL. Second is I prioritized the HELL out of the file list to get
what I wanted. All the anime and Manga got set to 'skip', which was
about 18% of the total thing. Sorry, anime just isn't my scene.
Put the biggest files at HIGH priority, like the movies and full TV
episodes, and they'll go first, while the shorter clips will fill
in the gaps on normal priority. In truth I probably only have about
80-85% of the total downloaded, but I have everything I want and if
I'm missing eight episodes of 'cinderella boy', so be it.

Speed is all about how many people are downloading and sharing. I'm
only connected to half the peers I can see and there's enough
pieces amongst them to have 3 full copies of the full torrent. The
peer d/l speeds on them seems fairly good.
Bodyswap1, if you're having speed issues, the problem is on your
end and there are many faqs, especially on utorrent's web site,
that can help you resolve it. If your configurations are not set
proper, it will impact how many people you can connect to if any at
all. If you can't connect to people, you don't get any speed in
downloading.
