Ah, went to pick up an external hard drive then? You should check the format of the hard drive to see if it is FAT32. If it is NTFS formatted, it won't take anything larger than 4gb, and since the torrent is 42gb, that could be your problem. Especially if it kind of starts for a moment, and then craps out. If it is something else, more details are needed, but again, I'm not tech support here.

I thought if it was FAT32 formatted it wouldn't take over 4gb. I think maybe you flip flopped those.

From: Miss Pinky , 197 months, post #123
Its NFTS, I have no idea how to reformat it. I'll look into this.

From: guest , 197 months, post #124
I think NTFS is what you want. NTFS is newer than FAT32, so it should be able to handle bigger files better. You know what, it might be a good idea to look that up on wikipedia.

From: guest (magma) , 197 months, post #125
NTFS allows bigger files but we are talking about 42GB consisting of several files.
As long as each file is less than 2GB it should work with FAT32 as well.

From: Miss Pinky , 197 months, post #126
Yeah, it looks like NTFS is what you use for larger files, so I'm a bit lost as to why it won't work. Looks like I'll have to call tech support on Monday.

Okay, I know nobody is obligated to help me, but this is the error message I get:

[core.MultTorrent.d18e006d1fe2e019c85f0ec6d17d5fd85c0f9966 Torrent got exception: socket.herror Traceback (most recent call last):
File "BTL\yielddefer.pyo", line 94, in _recall
File "BitTorrent\Torrent.pyo", line 534, in_initialize
File "BTL\defer.pyo", line 58 in getResult
File "twisted\python\failure.pyo", line 258, in raiseException
herror: (11001, "host not found")

So, if anyone who speaks torrent can tell me what that means, I'd be much obliged. I'll even make you some custom caps.

From: guest (magma) , 197 months, post #128
I already mentioned it somewhere. Timber inserted a space character between http:// and the host IP address in the torrent file.
I know that at least rtorrent can't cope with it.
Use your favorite hex editor to change the ' ' to '0'.

Miss Pinky, I know uTorrent is a very reliable torrent program, so I advise trying to use that one to get the files if you aren't already. If you try using that one and still have trouble post that here, if I can help I will.

From: Miss Pinky , 197 months, post #130
Thanks, Other Side. I'm using uTorrent. I was using BT, but this just started torrenting without any problems whatsoever.

Looking at the counter right now, it says it'll be done in... 3 weeks.

D'oh.

P.S. Just wanted to say, I'm not turning my computer off until its done, so I'll be seeding, as I hope everyone else who's getting this is doing.

From: Timber , 197 months, post #132
Speed is all going to be based on how many people you are connected to and how fast everyone is sharing with everyone else. I see 23-25 peers, and connected to about 7 of them. I can't see how many other seeds are out there though. Hopefully if the other seeds that have left rejoins, then everyone can get it all faster.

From: Other Side , 197 months, post #133
Miss Pinky, you won't be able to get the whole thing before Timber has to leave if that estimate is correct, so I recommend you set a bunch of files you want the most to high priority, and ones you don't care about too much to low priority. That will hopefully reduce the number of files you have partially completed if the torrent goes down for good before you have everything.

From: Miss Pinky , 197 months, post #134
Its going WAY faster now. Should be done in less than a week unless something goes wrong.

From: guest (mdky) , 197 months, post #135
Mine suddenly stopped at 78.2 and i don't know what's wrong.

From: guest (Pinky) , 197 months, post #136
Sometimes it loses the seeds. Stop and restart, and it should pick up again.

From: guest (lasuvala) , 197 months, post #137
yea i'm finally done!!!!

From: guest (guest) , 197 months, post #138
seed people, please

From: Miss Pinky , 197 months, post #139
I think I'm seeding, how do I know for sure? I'm rather new/bad at torrenting.

From: Timber , 197 months, post #140
One is technically a "seed" when you are online and uploading after reaching 100%. Otherwise, you are a "peer" if you haven't finished, but upload as well as download. So long as people are uploading and downloading with each other, and that you're connected to enough peers that there is over 100% of the file available, you will manage to get a full copy eventually. Connected to seeds guarantee that you have access to 100% of the torrent.

Also, while prioritizing the files you want to download will help insure you get those items you want, the more people connected the better. Even though my web site will be going down in a couple of days, that only means no new people can join the torrent because as the location the torrent metadata file points to for initial peers, those who are already part of the torrent and can exchange peer information with each other will manage to continue downloading so long as their torrent client stays up. If the client loses the information on peers, then they'll be unable to resume the torrent.

Of course, this is a moot point until someone else out there recompiles the torrent metadata file and acts as a host.
