I've said multiple times I don't care what people do with the files
once they acqurie them. In this thread even. Rapidshare had also
been discussed so if individual parts of it were placed there, I
wouldn't care either. Just would never be able to share the
42gigabytes of archive as anything other than 420 separate pieces
which would have made that impractical.
I've never specified which branch of the US military I joined. I
could be army, navy, air force, marines, coast guard, or national
guard. I won't know where I'll be stationed for quite a while, and
hopefully it will be stateside. My real name is irrelevant.
I've been reading this board from the days it used to just be the
GCFL (gender change fiction list). I do not plan on being gone
forever, just for a while. I will just be losing the ability to
share my files that I've been doing since the IRC days, and more
recently with my web sites and torrents.

Timber's torrent is apparently down right now. I know last time
that happened Timber didn't realize it for more than a week so I
figured I'd put a message in here.

No, I'm aware it is down. My service lapsed again due to past due
bills (again). It will probably not return since my timeframe of
shipping out is significantly sooner than I hoped, my resources
have to be put in getting ready to leave.

good luck in the military, and thank you for the stuff you have put
up.

Thanks. And I lied in my post a few days ago. I do need my internet
up to take care of various things before I ship out. So, for the
next week, the temporary server is located at:
Timber's Temporary Torrent of Server files
The files available on the torrent
It is only the original torrent that has been available for the
last 4-5 months, so last chance everyone.
And to beat a dead horse with my statement, I'm not here to teach
people how to use the technology to get the files I've made
available. It's all laid out much earlier in this thread so just
read before you ask questions. If you ask questions without
reading, I will mock you outrageously because I don't care about
the board's policy against it since I'm going away for a long time.
Mwahahahahaha.
Much love to the community.

And sometime after the 26th of January, it'll be gone for a long
time if not forever.

Damn, I need to get a temporary hard drive.
|
From: Timber

All you need is something above 42 gigabytes. Walk into any
electronics store and see what's on sale. Should be able to get
something like an 80gb for about $50.

Kinda reminds me of that Saturday Night Live skit "Nick Burns: The
Company Computer Guy".

The server didn't work. I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Server is up and running fine. If you're having problems, you may
want to figure it out. I see about a dozen people torrenting, and
from my server statistics, there have been a few dozen hits since I
brought it back online.

Thanks for the encouraging words.
|
From: Timber

I'm not here to be encouraging. I even stated I'd start mocking
people outright if they're going to be stupid. I took your comment
to mean that there was a problem with the server which could have
been possible. Seeing none since lots of others are happily
connecting and downloading, I made a suggestion you check on your
end.
I'm here to facilitate file sharing. I'd like to continue
facilitating that as long as I can before I leave. I hope that
someone takes it up after I leave, and perhaps that person may be
more hands on helpful.

I had an idea. What about Direct Connect (DC for short)? If you
don't know anything about it, it lets people share what they have
and get what other people are sharing. You don't have to upload
files to sites that might just take them down and you don't have to
set up a torrent either. StopTazmo has a DC hub, so if you've ever
gone there to get some TG manga you might know what I'm talking
about.
If there was a TG hub in Direct Connect, that would be another way
Timber's files could be shared. Other things that are no longer
available could be shared as well that way. For example I still
have many things that were on Gendertech.
Anyway I hope someone who can will put Timber's files up somewhere
once Timber can't host them anymore. And one final thing, Mediafire
seems to be much better than Rapidshare. No waiting/download
limits for one.

You kinda come off as an arrogant know it all. Keep up the good
work.

Timber, if your tracker is going to disappear, why do you mark that
torrent as private?
If you didn't, people could continue the torrent with DHT capable
clients.

Re to post 115: Yes, I do often come across as an arrogant know it
all. It's a habit from doing tech support. I read the post as a
problem ticket and the response was, nope, no problem on our end,
must be your end, check your settings again and report further
details.
Re to post 116: It was the way the tracker was originally compiled.
I had not expected to disappear. As I said, if someone wants to
recompile the torrent, then go ahead. Even if it were compiled with
DHT capable, it still would have needed some original source and
that was my machine and that machine is being turned off. DHT would
pretty much have allowed current users to finish it without my
presence, but new people would not have been able to acquire it. At
least that was my understanding of DHT.
|
From: guest (magma)
, 198 months, post #118 |
DHT allows new people to acquire it as long as these clients work
in the same DHT network as a seed. Being in the same DHT network is
just a matter of luck.
In an ideal world there is just one big DHT network, but when hosts
go offline a bunch of hosts might get separated from the rest.
Another possibility is that some clients start up with an empty
list and never stumble over someone from the big net.
Last time I checked there were two incompatible DHT protocols:
The official Mainline/Torrent/BitComet/... protocol
and the Azureus protocol

Timber, I'm going to attempt to attain as much media as possible
before your departure. I have an awesome connection to the net, and
will probably be posting most of the files on mIRC (kickin it old
school). Anyways, I'm aiming for the middle of February to have
everything together and running. Peace out, yall.

Not sure why its not letting me torrent, maybe because I'm trying
to do it direct to an external hard drive. I'll keep trying.
