It would be nice if some seeds could join the party.

I finished downloading and I've just left it running. Is there
something specific I need to do to 'seed'? Right now it says 0/0
seeds, but I'm uploading to SOMEWHERE.

You have to add in the new "announce" address for it to upload to
the one magma posted. Is it okay for me to put that address here? I
think I've seen things like that deleteted here at morphose before.

>>> "Is it okay for me to put that address here?"
I'm going to say "no".
You can tell them where to find the address, but not the address
itself. That's my interpretation of Paul's request, anyhow.

I would say just post it at fictionmania.xeraweb.com if that is
where the new torrent info is anyway with the instructions.

Manga, email me with the url and instructions on how to start
seeding.

Magma could you please email me with instructions on where to find
the torrent and download it?
|

To find it in the first place you search the web for "fictionmania
xera forums" and it should probably be the second link that comes
up that will lead you to the forums. You choose "general
discussion" once you're on the forums, and then it's in the only
thread that mentions Timber in the title. Should all be simple
enough.
Once you've got the torrent file, there's two ways to go if you had
either started getting the old torrent or you just want to seed.
1) I believe that if you open it up and tell it to save to exactly
where you have stuff saved already, it might start
seeding/downloading properly. I'm not fully sure though as I did it
a different way that I know works.
2) If you open up the torrent file itself in a text editor, you can
get the address you need to add to the list of "trackers". You
don't have to understand what that means, just follow these steps.
In the text it will start with "d8:announce45:". Right after that
is a http address that ends with "announce". Copy everything from
the start of the http to the end of the "announce".
To continue in uTorrent, right click on the torrent in your list of
torrents (it's called Server, to clear up any confusion) and choose
"properties". A box should come up saying General and below that
Trackers. Click the blank line below the http address that's
already in there, paste the new address, and hit enter. Then click
the OK at the very bottom of the box.
You should be good to go, but the one drawback I had was I had to
close uTorrent and open it up for the new address to start working.
That would mean you can't connect back to the old torrent since
it's down now.
Anyway, steps to do it in other torrent programs should be similiar
if you don't use uTorrent. I can't help with those though.

DON'T follow Other Side's advice to change the announce address of
the old torrent.
This will take you to the other tracker but you won't connect to
people who downloaded the torrent from the forum.
"1)" is the way to go.
|
From: Timber
, 197 months, post #191 |
Yes, 1 is definitely the way to go. Use the new torrent, and point
the save location to where you were saving the old torrent, and it
will all catch up, check itself, etc and continue from there. Any
old torrent information is null and void and should not be used.
The old torrent information was linked to my home machine, which
has been boxed up, and relied on that machine to share information
amongst the peers.
This will probably be the last day I visit this site in a while.
Tomorrow, the rest of my machines goes into boxes.

thanks for all your help and timber too.

Thanks to magma's advice, I'm seeding (except for occasional
downloads) and I've seen at least one other seed. Uploaded 4.7 GB
so far, at around 30-40 KBps. Ratio is 22.279; I don't know
precisely what all those numbers mean taken together, but it sure
looks impressive.
Thanks again to Timber for starting this party.

Hi there. I've got the thing downloaded and I'm currently seeding.
It won't be on 24/7, but it'll be on as much as I can manage. If
y'all have any complaints, too bad.
My ratio isn't near as good, but its what I've got.

I can't wait til mine hits 100% then I will start seeding it right
away. Right now I'm at 24% and climbing. Thanks for starting this
timber we will never forget you.

Well, for the most powerful military in the world, it still screws
up. My orders for shipping out got changed, so I'll be hanging
around for another week (10 days to be exact) though all my
computers except my laptop are in boxes. Glad to see things are
still moving along quite nicely without me. Since I've got spare
time suddenly on my hands I wasn't quite expecting, I'll probably
compile and assemble that second megatorrent I had discussed on and
off, but will not be able to actually torrent it out. I may have to
send the hard drive to CJ to torrent since the last time the 42
gigs managed to create its first seed other than myself after 12
days, and I think any new megatorrent would be about 25 gigs. If it
gets much larger, I think Miss Pinky might have to go out and buy
another hard drive. LOL.

Miss Pinky is very good at computers. What kind of computer class
did you take in high school?
