43 bucks for a DVD? That's way too expensive. Hopefully, it will wind up on the internet like most movies are.

I see that it'll be out on January 25th however.

Will the movie have English sub-titles in it? I just emailed YesAsia to find out but if anyone else knows or know where it can be found with Subs, please let us know.

I just received a reply from YesAsia.com asking if "Tenkousei sayonara anata" would contain English subs or dub and the answer is no.

It sometimes happens in international films with no subs that if the movie is popular enough that they DO add them later.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

So, I just received my DVD copy in the mail all of the way from Asia today. I will post a commentary when I have a chance.

Okay - I've gone through the DVD in it's entirety (no skipping around or ahead to get to the good parts), and I will attempt to summarize as best I can. I'd really like a translation to see how close to this I get, especially in the critical part to understand how it resolved. The boy is a new student in the school (from another town). He befriends the girl. After school, she takes him up into the woods to a fountain, where there is water coming out of the side of what looks to be a hill, into a well. There are cups with long handles for putting into the stream of water, to get a drink.

The girl is on one side of the well, and uses the extended handle of the cup to get some water. She reaches it across the expanse of the well to the boy on the other side, both lose their balance, falling into the well. In the well, they exchange bodies.

As with most similar Japanese BS videos, neither immediately realizes they are in different bodies. They each, seprately, leave the fountain, going back to their real house. At their real house, in their real room, they both now realize here has been a switch. Confusion results. The new girl ends up going to the house where the body belongs. More confusion results.

They appear to agree to live each other's life until they can figure out how to switch back. There are a variety of non-descript side adventures, which you've seen dozens of times in other Asian BS Videos. Nothing really new. There are a few occasions where it appears they are going to kiss or get intimate, but are always interrupted.

This is where it significantly veers from anything I've seen before. There is another student who has a crush on the girl. He gets involved, and eventually figures out on his own there has been a body swap. The boy has a friend that's a girl, from the other town. She shows up, and it appears that she figures out there has been a body swap too. There is trouble convincing the parents of both people, but, it appears to me that they also eventually start beleiving there has been a body swap too.

Here's the fly in the ointment. The boy in the girl's body gets very sick. S/he is taken to the hospital, series of tests, MRI's CT-Scan's etc., and it looked (to me) like there was a brain tumor. The one thing the I got, that was very obvious is that whatever s/he has its terminal. My understanding of this was that the girl in the guy's body wants to swtich back because she doesn't want ther boy in her body to die in her place. The boy in girl's body does not and to switch back, because he loves the girl, and does not want to see her die. He's rather sacrifice himself in her place, so she can live.

Interesting twist I've never seen before.

Ultimately, they agree to try and switch back (I believe for the parent's sake). The two others, along with the girl in the boy's body take the boy in the girl's body out of the hospital in the middle of the night. The boy in the girl's body is now in a wheelchair. It starts a journey or search to find another fountain. They meet up with several people along the way (including what can only be described as band of Japanese gypsies). In the end, only the two end up making it to the fountain.

They try to repeat the process. It is difficult to determine whether they switched back or not. Arguments can be had both way, and this is where a translation would come in handy. The girl's body dies.

Whoever is in the boy's body leaves home, and stops back at the home of the girl's body, to speak to the parents. He ends up at the grave of the girl. Says good-bye (the only word I understood "sayonara"). A ghost in the form of a girl appears (although not seen by him), to wish whomerver is in the boy body good-bye. The boy body walks away, the ghost watching him go.

As the boy body walks away, the other boy who had a crush on the girl walks up. They talk, and shake hands warmly. They go their own separate ways.

The girl ghost fades away.

Let the analysis ensue.
