This is a thread for users of this site to discus the creation of what is appropriate posting etiquette. If this thread generates a set of reasonable guildlines I will attach it to the posting page.

To make changes. Click on the entry at the start of this thread, then click on "edit this Page".

From: paul , 208 months, post #2
These are additions made by cj

  • Do not post direct links to complete copyrighted works. Links are provided by the copyright holder may be exempt.
  • Do not post messages in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
  • Do not attack a user for improper spelling and/or grammar. Not all of our community uses English as their native language.
  • Please post in English, or include an English translation, when possible.
  • Please do not stray (far) from the topic of the original post.
  • Please keep the conversations civil.

From: cj , 208 months, post #3
I just added the following item to the "Posting Etiquette" entry:

*Do not plagiarize.

Remember, this thread is for everyone to discus what is appropriate posting etiquette.

From: cj , 208 months, post #4
I just made some spelling and grammar corrections to the entry. I also changed the following points from:
  • Do not post direct links to complete copyrighted works. Links are provided by the copyright holder may be exempt.
  • Please keep the conversations civil.

to:
  • Do not post direct links to complete copyrighted works. Links are provided by (or approved by) the copyright holder may be exempt.
  • Please keep the conversations civil. Do not 'attack' other posters.

I just added the following item to the "Posting Etiquette" entry:
  • Be polite, courteous, and respectful.
  • If a poster provides their contact information for any reason, do NOT clutter the Message Board by asking them to contact you. They gave out their contact information for a reason.
  • No begging. Ask nicely.

From: cj , 208 months, post #6
Ooops... correction to post #5.

Changed point actually changed to read:
  • Do not post direct links to complete copyrighted works. Links provided by (or approved by) the copyright holder may be exempt.

From: cj , 208 months, post #7
This topic is still open for discussion... Are there any suggestions I made that seem wrong?

I find it difficult to believe that I have thought of everything.

How's the wording... is everything easily understandable... how about for our non English-only speaking members, do these points make sense?

Don't keep asking for clips or anything relate to the episode, AFTER others already posted links to where to buy them.........

From: guest , 208 months, post #9
If you post a link, please try to provide some identification as to what it is.

From: guest (Inry) , 208 months, post #10
Please, include all categories in the link. If the source has Animal and TG components, include both. If there are book, comics and movie, all threee may be present.
And, please, spend some minutes to search at least one link to the source. For books, Amazon; for movies - IMDB contain almost all names.

From: Michael Binary , 208 months, post #11
Just from my personal side, I don't have
any questions or proposals.
Just a German translation of the Posting Etiquette come to my mind. I guess a translation(several languages) would be a nice add on metamorphose.org and it's staff . Not really a proposal, just a thought :-)

And do not feed the trolls and spammers. Ignore them and they will go away, one way or another.

From: Inry , 208 months, post #13
Do not post duplicate entries. Try to search fisrt. For example, if you remember a movie "Lum", you could easy reveat that it's really "Those obnoxivious alises" or "Urusei yatsura".

Do not include your personal opinions "That book sucks" "It's made by LSD-drugged psycho" "I like Freppo, he is a real man". Use neutral style.

Add correct tags for possible spoilers. It would be bad if anybody could read "And the real killer was a rabid rabbit". You can see the movie in first time only once. Try not to reveal mystery in the main text.

Those would be a wonderful additions to the submissions page... :-)

Good thing that we have the ability to edit entries, and add the additional information and tags. As for the opinions - when the reviews come back, that's a good place for them - as long as they aren't without merit. I would like to think that we can voice our opinions in a message board post, though... again, we should state why or what and not just say "this movie sucks". Though I'm sure that we can all think of exceptions.

>>> "... a German translation of the Posting Etiquette come to my mind. I guess a translation(several languages) would be a nice add..."

I believe the reason that the site is in English-only is so that Paul (and staff) can keep an eye on things... but I don't want to put words into his mouth. And it is a good thought - maybe we should start learning some new languages. :-)

I'm going to add a good chunk of your suggestions and see how it looks - so let me know in a little bit. :-)

I'm thinking that you can actually add items yourself (go to the
Posting Etiquette
page and Edit this Page ) - just let us know here what you added and maybe some thoughts about it, if you think they're needed.

From: cj , 208 months, post #15
I'll try to create a post that will outline the submission of an entry a bit better... perhaps this weekend. I'll try to mention a few of your suggestions there, Inry. :-)

I just edited and/or added the following lines to the Posting Etiquette page:
  • Do not feed the trolls and spammers. Please ignore them.
  • Do not keep asking for clips after others have already posted links to where to buy the material.
  • If you post a link, please provide some detail as to what it is. Identify the material if possible.
  • Please post clear spoiler warnings if you intend to give away details that would spoil the story for those who have not yet seen the material, preferably by using the <spoiler> tags.

If my edit messed up the meaning of your intended message - let me know... or edit the page to make the corrections. Remember this is for POSTING s, not Entry Submissions - though most of it will crossover to that as well.

From: The Gambler , 208 months, post #16
This is kind of OT, but shouldn't the message board allows registered users to post only? With lots of spams that needs to clean up every single day, and then the few trolls still here, registered users might be the only way to fix it, with ability to block IP. Just my 2 cents.

From: cj , 208 months, post #17
I still question Inry's latest additions to the "Posting Etiquette" ... only so far as they seem more in-tune with an entry, as Submission Etiquette, rather than for posts.
  • Include all item's categories in the link. If the source has Animal and TG components, include both. If there are book, comics and movie, all threee may be present.
  • Spend some minutes to search at least one link to the source. For books, Amazon; for movies - IMDB contain almost all names.
  • Try not to post duplicate entries. Please, search before posting. For example, if you remember a movie "Lum", you could easy reveal that it's really "Those obnoxivious alises" or "Urusei yatsura".
  • Do not include your personal opinions "That book sucks|rocks" "It's made by LSD-drugged psycho" "I like Freppo, he is a real man". Use neutral style.
I'm not knocking Inry's ideas at all - they are wonderful for the entries in this database... but do they really relate to message board posts?

Actually, now that I mention it... perhaps I'm a bit off, thinking that this is only for message board posts. :-\

Comments... suggestions?

From: Inry , 208 months, post #18
Yes, move them to "Submission"

From: cj , 208 months, post #19
I'm going to clean the thread... in case you notice the missing removed posts.

From: cj , 208 months, post #20
Done.

Inry, please check out the Submission Help page and see if I captured your intent, or if I made a mess of it.
