This one could have done without all the pop science fiction references. Seemed a little self conscious in that regard. Mike seems impossibly blase about suddenly becoming a woman, deciding "Well, I'm female now, but half the population is, so no big deal!"

That's it?
As if!

The time travel storyline is pretty good, told as it is from the viewpoint of a "present day" person up against "future" opponents although it sets up some fairly typical straw men as the stereotypically evil villains.

SPOILER::

Does Galloway end up back in the right body? Well yes and no, and that's somewhat unsatisfying. The character's memories end up both in the woman's body AND in Mike's original body too! So which one's really Mike Galloway? Hmmmm...

This book was a decent read, although the TG element was not really focussed on at all. The main character goes from a successful male with an identity card to a homeless identity-less lesbian and he's rather blase about the whole thing. Not enough done there.

The style involves telling first-person viewpoint chapters from the point of view of several people, some as little as one page. For me this is weak story construction and spoiled the flow a little bit.

Overall, the book is quite good as a SF novel - the time travel bits are nicely done and the arena has potential, but I don't think the basic ideas have been exploited as well as they could have been.
