Aliens transform a man into a woman.

A bit player in the story is changed to a woman only to show how
intelligent the aliens are - the aliens can see into his/her mind and
realize that the person would be more comfortable as a woman.

It's not a comic or graphic novel.
It's a pretty silly novel from back in the days when those black-eyed gray aliens were all the rage in sci fi and pop culture.
Most of the book is all about the revelation of a UFO crash but there's a tiny vignette about a fighter pilot whose plane is trashed in an encounter with a flying saucer. He suffers severe injuries so the aliens move his mind out of his battered body and into a new, female, one. This brings on some silly, weepy angst.
And whadya know, turns out the aliens have a nice dress of just the right size... right on their flying saucer!
The transformed pilot then encounters another pilot, who's still a guy, and they exchange some silly stereotypical macho dialogue about being tough guys until the now-female pilot decides "I enjoy being a girl" or something along those lines... and love blooms.
Did I mention it was pretty silly?

Just curious, since Whitley claims he has been abducted, if this is a work of fiction or not? If not, it does seem really silly.

This was actually the best part of the author's fictionalized take on the 1947 Roswell UFO incident. I reread it recently and still enjoyed the part about the injured fighter pilot getting a new, female body. The aliens first look into his mind and find there a "female soul." I wish it had taken up much more of the book.
