Frank Herbert book The Dosadi Experiment
Gender
A man and woman swap bodies for a short time.

Not a bad book, and the TG scenes are given some serious treatment. Role exploration is minimal, mostly it's just on sex from the other side, which is rather fun, says i.

Wellllll - I just reread this book after seeing it mentioned in a Sci-Fi article on "SEX-CHANGES" in Analog, comparing it with Heinlein's "I Will Fear No Evil". I liked the concept of Heinlein's plot = adjustment of the main character to the female body... but that is NOT gonna be described in this book! - at least not in detail! What you find in Dorsadi Experiment is a strange set of people/aliens who are constantly worried about things that are - frankly - quite difficult to figure out in the begining (Bear with it - you'll catch on - its a set of worlds where politics/sex roles/personal freedom are all topsy-turvy!) Finally, at the last pages, almost, the "alien" humanoid female and the earthling male are "mind melded" (sorry Mr. Spock) and soon cannot tell where one begins and the other ends. So that natually ties together all the loose ends of the plot (and equalizes all the political/sexual/whatever arguments and conflicts of the story). So what is the TG? Okay, be patient! If you mindmeld, you soon can be either body - get it? SOOOOO some good descriptions of "what it is like... etc." At the very end...

Spoiler alert!

Stop reading this if you want to save the surprises of the plot!) At the end... "she" dies, at least her body is destroyed. "He" thinks "she" is gone forever - BUT (Heinlein) - "she" is in there with "him"! Of course the minds are both in the male body - I hope they never get a divorce - could be real messy, literally! ("I want the crystal vase we got from our wedding....and the right side!.... Ha!)
