Dennis Quaid is placed in a craft, shrunken, and injected into the body of a rabbit. Something goes wrong and he's injected into a man's body instead. In the end of the movie, two terrorists are permanently shrunken down to half their original sizes.

As a Sci-fi action comedy this movie is my pick for one of the best films of all time. For pre-CGI effects it stands the test of time extremely well. Besides the heroic lead and the villains top muscle being shrunk to microscopic size, about a half dozen villainous technicians, in addition to the two principle bad guys, are shrunk to 50% of their normal size. My favorite moment however is actually a different kind of transformation involving a facial transformation (a revert actually) where Jack Putter (Martin Short), while disguised as the "Cowboy" (Robert Picardo) loses the ability to retain his facial disguise as a result of the stress he's placed under. The reaction of the other characters to Cowboy's metamorphosis, helped by some remarkable SFX, should top just about everyone's favorite transformation moments. Five stars out of five.

Totally underrated exceptional movie.
Dennis Quaid is great as the swaggering big mouth kind of guy he used to play.
There's one scene near the end where some characters run to a phone booth. Remember phone booths? And Jack Putter's TV has a cathode ray tube.
Otherwise, it could have been made last week.
Thrilling in its own way, fun and funny.

Met Robert (Cowboy) Picardo almost 20 years to the day since the release of Innerspace at a convention a couple of years ago. I asked him about a sequel built around the Cowboy finally getting released from jail and seeking revenge on Putter and Jack. He said the biggest stumbling block was the fact that Quaid and Ryan had a falling out and certainly wouldn't want to do another movie together. Personally I think that could work to the advantage of a sequel. Kill off one character to get the movie started (I vote Quaid). Putter has to avenge his friend and finally gets the girl. Hey, it's not too far fetched. Just look at Indianna Jones, of which they're talking about yet another sequel.

Incidentally, I also saw Martin Short in person that same month but didn't get a chance to talk to him. If anyone does get the chance to talk to him please ask him if he'd be interested in doing a sequel.

Getting back to the subject of transformations. The film had that hilarious bit where Putter lost his disguise. If they do a sequel I hope they try a full body transformation along gender lines.
