Review: Strange Frequency episode Instant Karma
Strange Frequency episode Instant Karma
Gender
This episode is about a fan who swaps bodies with the rocker who abused her; with Lindsay Sloane and Jason Gedrick ("Falcone," "The Beast").

Good Episode, too short though... only 30min long. not much to be said of the acting since it was so short, not much time to establish what they could do in each other's bodies. One good spot was when the rockstar as the girl showed her breasts to a security guard to get up to a penthouse suite. as he walks away and closes his blouse, he says "nice? arent they?"

Now that I see it i am disappointed. So much more could have been done. the scene in the elevator was the best scene, and the only one dealing with a new body physically.

The story was predictable. The ending was also predictable. Good acting from the leads, though. Neither character was presented as likeable, but the girl was worse, a fanatic who planned murder when the switch occurred. The story seemed to favor the girl far too much. They tried to be cute with the ending instead of meting out true justice.

Try imagining the ending like this instead. The rock star in the girl's body uses his stage training to become a star again, becoming a better woman than he was a man along the way. Maybe they just ran out of time at 30 minutes.

I rate the tg as minimal since it was acted that way. I will note that the swap lasts thru about half the show, though.

In his review, c.jones missed a very important plot point: The rock star RAPED the female character! This gives a girl a reason to want to kill him, even if it is the wrong thing to do. It also gives the ending a true sense of justice. The rock star got what he deserved, and the girl didn't have to resort to murder. As far as the writers playing it cute, I have to agree. That's one of the basic problems with the show in general, not just this episode. Still, this episode is one of the best of the series, in my opinion.

Ho hum. What a letdown.
Virtually no acknowledgement by either character about having swapped sexes.
Instead, the rock star, who's spent a lifetime as a man and is suddenly a teenage girl, gets all worked up about...
MONEY! As in "Give me my body back... and stop giving away my money!"
Huh?
This, even though the story takes place over at least a couple of days, certainly adequate time for the two of them to experience living in a completely different world from what they were used to.
Likewise the fan, a starstruck young woman who's now become a hyper testosteronic male rock star, merely makes a point of:
...acting like a bigger jerk than the guy himself had been.
...messing up a big concert by condemning all those hokey rock and roll cliches that, only a few minutes earler, had seemed sooooo touching!
...chasing away a groupie with a maudlin speech.
...and giving away the guy's money!
And as if all that weren't ridiculous enough,

(SPOILER!)

we wrap up with an incredibly contrived twist as they swap back just in time (and we're talking a matter of seconds) for the fan to frame the rock star for rape! Okay, we can chalk that up to Karma and, I guess, just ignore the fact that, by then, BOTH of them had provided the rock star's manager with ample clues that something strange had happened and things were not as they seemed.
This one was extra disappointing for its violation of the hitherto relentlessly edgy, clever and dark spirit of "Strange Frequency," which usually never hesitated to sweep innocent and guilty alike into the maelstrom of rock's dark side.
Perhaps if, say, once the shoe were on the other foot, the disillusioned fan had found the star's glittery, indulgent, corrupt world too seductive to resist, we might have been off and running into something interesting. Instead, we got a slightly twisted After School Special.
Yes, justice was done; Karma was balanced; and in the end, the creep got his.
But with such anemic execution, ultimately the best part of this episode was Roger Daltrey's rock-star-as-Rod-Serling/voice of wisdom opening monologue on the mind of the groupie:
"If you (the fan) could spend just a few minutes with him (the rock star), you just know he'd 'get' you the way you 'get' him.
...and surely nothing good can come of that."
A promising start, but a promise unfulfilled.

Well I for one thought this episode was awesome.. Lindsay Sloane is Valerie from Sabrina the teenage witch for those who didnt know. Acting was spot on, and a good revenge story with a tg element. I enjoyed it if no one else. Infact- the whole film was great in my opinion, if not just for TG. In the first installment in the film, Spike (James Marsters) from Buffy plays a roadie who finds a piece of music,...

SPOILERS!

plays it, the devil appears to make him famous, and kills him by making him play his guitar till his fingers bleed- and eventually leads to his death. Highly enjoyable.. And as i say the whole film gets top marks in my vote.
