Comment: Shallow Hal
Shallow Hal

WARNING : SPOILERS ! ! ! This entry DOES unveil part of the plot of this movie. Hal is brainwashed to see the 'inner' beauty of "ugly" or "undesirable" people. Hal meets a hostess at a resturant, while being brainwashed. He thinks that the girl, Tiffany, is a cute and spunky 18 year old. However, ...more

I saw this movie- it has funny. And there's a guy with a tail in it too isn't there?

Yup, Jason Alexander (AKA George Costanza from "Seinfeld") is Hal's sleazy friend, unable to form a real relationship, not because of his hideous toupee, but because he's neurotic about his tail, which we see him wag at the end of the movie.
Of course there are no transformations whatsoever in "Shallow Hal." There are only what can best be described as hallucinations, which cause a hypnotized Hal (Jack Black) to see people's inner characters rather than what they look like on the outside. So, the hugely obese, but very sweet, Rosemary appears to him as beautiful as Gwyneth Paltrow.
My favorite bit is the hideous over-made-up shrew of a nurse who works with Rosemary and who we see hanging around with Hal's handicapped millionaire buddy. Only late in the movie do we see her through eyes OTHER than Hal's and realize that, on the outside, she's a beautiful gold digger. Pretty funny.

This was one of those movies that I saw once and need never see again. I know the message was that you need to see the inner-beauty instead of concentrating on looks and that's all well and good, but I think the message got lost. I just didn't think it was that good of a movie.

I also like the guy on four legs that needs to wear a leash like a dog.
