Just came across this video on tiktok of am Indonesian dude using
an Pinterest pic of a Japanese girl and taking her face on a video
using AI. The results are so uncanny and it looks like he is her
now.

I'm sure there's many other videos out there similar to this but
this is the first time I felt amazed (and scared) with AI

Any idea what this is? I subscribed to the Youtuber boglin2001
because they were doing actual short stories with AI. Fun
transformations but then incorporating Fictionmania style character
arcs.
Today the channel post some sort of complication of VR clips from a
woman's POV. The photorealism of the character models and materials
looks amazing but I'm not sure what this is.

The tiktok is probably WAN 2.2 Animate. It’s pretty amazing that
character replacement can be done with a single photo without hours
of training. Some day stuff like this might run in real time.

I wrote about this on my blog, but essentially, generative AI and
how we'll be able to create – in video – any imaginable world,
that's basically a preview of virtual reality. I mean, in like 5 or
10 years, we could be creating any imaginable world – whole movies,
whole video games, whole everything – worlds – in video – where you
can be anyone, where you can see all your fantasies play out. We
won't be able to live there just yet, but one day, we'll perfect
brain-machine interfaces and we'll actually be able to live inside
these synthetic realities.
In a way, symbolically speaking, I think both ideas, fully
immersive reality and generative AI, are pretty closely related,
both dealing with imagining worlds. With the difference that in one
you just look, and in the other you will be able to live there.
Generative AI is a sample of what people will see 50 or 100 years
from now when we develop this tech.
It's people Striking Vipers in San Junipero.

I wonder if it will be a good or bad thing. I don’t think there are
many people on this Earth who are happy with how they look, imagine
if every Mirror in your house displayed an idealised image of
yourself, where you wear that avatar into your virtual workplaces
and virtual worlds. Where you only have to deal with reality when
you eat and sleep.
I think we have a weird future ahead of us.

I wish I could access it but i have no idea. I want to be Sarah
Hyland for a bit.

A little "off-topic", but I think it's sometimes sobering to take a
fantasy of being someone else and look at the darker side of
actually becoming just like that person. For example, Sarah Hyland
has kidney dysplasia and has had two kidney transplants. Selena
Gomez has also been a popular "I want to be her" fantasy, but her
health problems are also quite well documented. But I guess the
fantasy is to look like someone who looks attractive, but be
healthy and feel good.
For me, seeing someone else in real time in a "mirror" is the most
powerful thing. I use the iOS Real Deep app on an iPad Pro (M2 -
you don't want the landscape camera in the M4 iPad Pro). It's a bit
low resolution and it's just a face replacement, but the frame
rates are good and if I put a bit of effort into hair, accessories,
clothing etc, the illusion can be quite convincing. Some faces work
better than others and I often try many photos of a person to find
one that produces the best resemblance. With Real Deep, I find a
smiling photo where the person has their head turned slightly away
from the camera (to reveal the profile of the nose a bit better
etc) works best.
