Searching fictionmania on wayback machine

Can anyone give me tips on the easiest way to search for stories at the wayback machine? Whenever I go it seems the search function doesn’t work on the archive and when you go to the artist it also doesn’t seem to work. How do people find the stories they are looking for in the archive?

Fictionmania doesn't play nicely with the wayback machine. Its better to just search at Fictionmania.

Sadly, Wayback Machine search doesn't offer full text search. Like, it doesn't work like a traditional search engine, where you type something and the page shows you the result were looking for. Ironically enough this is a really big problem involving current internet archives, you end up having an archive without an index, where that information, although it might be there, it's virtually inaccessible because the only parameter you can use is "Oh, I remember this exact URL", which is often not the case. You might remember just a keyword, for instance, just a short sentence of what you were looking for.

But, there's an alternative. I have been archiving Fictionmania stories for some time, and I have then all in a file, which I update every so often. You can download it here:

It's a little trick to search around (don't try to open with notepad cause you will crash the software), the easiest alternative would be you to install the software called "EmEditor+", which is optimized to open these really large text. If you know a little bit of shell script and the like, I also wrote a simple script to search the file.

That works great on emeditor. However, I followed the link and uour screen shot seems to have row and column numbers but mine doesn’t open with that. I just have lines. Is there a way you are configuring the editor to show those?
