Blake Edwards, director of Pink Panther (known here as 'Der
rosarote Panther'(dubbed) togethere with P. Sellers and D. Niven,
remakes Victor/Victoria, but honestly, just for me, his best movie
was: Operation Petticoat). Switch, with E. Barkin, Smits and King
was a little disappointment. This phantastic director died December
15, 2010.

I went to Switch in the theater with great hopes, but I didn't care
for it. I think Blake Edwards was too crude and too PC all at the
same time. But the international telenovel "Lalola" is set up so
much like Switch (but using a curse, not a death) that is almost
has to have been inspired by it. Lalola does what Switch should
have done but didn't. Of course, Switch had only 2 1/4 hours to
tell its story; The various Lalolas have run 100, 148, 160, 205,
and 260 hours, and one is still running, in its 3rd television
season. Word is that Mexico and Peru will soon launch two new ones.

I wonder if the Blake Edwards estate could give US TV a better
rights deal than Dori Media, and then we could something a lot like
Lalola. They once tried to do Goodbye Charlie for TV. But,
honestly, most of the elements in all these stories are fair game.
It's a matter of skillful scripting. I don't see much US comedy
written with same the brains and heart that go into "Lalola."

You mention Dori Media, Donno, and I see that it has a site at
YouTube. There they are pushing their series to the world,
including Lalola. But, duhhh, why don't they put out a Lalola
release with English and really make some money? Honestly, what is
going on with this sort of marketing? Maybe the Russians (with
their great Margosha) don't like us and don't think about our
market when selling their entertainment abroad, but Dori Media is
based in Israel, an ally of the English West, so why not bring us
under their marketing umbrella? I can see myself dropping hundreds
of dollars for DVDs.
Like you, I'd like to see Switch made into a TV series if we can't
get Lalola. But this might be the wrong time to do a series that
needs a light, sympathetic touch. Most American comedy characters
are unlikeable hustlers and manipulators. That was what was wrong
with the Switch movie. A Switch TV show should be about learning
about life and working toward the harmony of the sexes, as
personified by one person; not about hustling for a buck and trying
to get into somebody's bed--like present-day US series usually are.
