DISCUSSION: What does a shapeshifter need to do in order to transform an animal?
From: juupton , 13 months, post #1
OK, so let's see here... Hmmm... (Thinking)...

List of Shapeshifters (and what they do to Shapeshift)
1.) Beast Boy (from Teen Titans) - He Shapeshifts into any animal by looking at them
2.) Ben Tennyson (from Ben 10) - He Shapeshifts into any alien that the Omnitrix scans or makes in physical contact with.
3.) Rue (from Threads of Fate - Dewprism) - He Shapeshifts into any creature that he defeats.

Okay, theses Shapeshifters can transform into any creature that they see, touch, or defeat. So let's use our imagination and knowledge on what they do to Shapeshift. Are there any other ways besides just seeing, touching, and defeating in order for Shapeshifters to transform into any animal they want?

Blood related. Such as getting bitten by an animal, or drinking blood like in Bloodborne.

Skin melding, molecule assimilation... can transform into the assimilated person and use their powers while using their likeness.

@guest - Hmmm..... (Thinking)..... (Taking Notes)....

@Coli - Hmmm..... This might be a silly question, but what's molecule assimilation?

Beast Boy transforms into any animal he knows about. He doesn't have to look at them. He just needs a decent idea of what it is.

Ben Tennyson isn't a shapeshifter anymore than the animorphs are. They have access to alien technology that changes them.

Probably one of the better shapeshifters are The Founders from Star Trek. They have to put in hard work because shapeshifting is a learned skill for them, but the stuff they can eventually learn to do is pretty damn good. With enough experience they can shapeshift into energy forms like fire or learn how to travel through space unaided.

Well, there was that TV show called Sheena: Queen of the Jungle and the main character can only morph into an animal once she's made eye contact with said animal.

@guest (post #5) - I see.

@guest (post #6) - Eye contact?! (Surprised) What a very creative idea!

Rimaru from Reincarnated as a Slime must first 'eat' a target before he can get its form and abilities.

@Thriller16161 - You mean the anime, "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime"?

I think the biggest concern would not be shifting into the form of an animal, but can you ensure you can return back to your original form? If you can shift into an animal form, do you retain your knowledge? Also, depending on the animal, do you have the appropriate knowledge of how to function as the animal and use its abilities?

What if you became a humming bird? You would have the ability to fly, but would you know how to do it? Could you get back to being a person after?

@Animal Man - Perhaps. But this discussion in the thread is supposed to be about what a shapeshifter needs to do in order to transform into an animal. (Confused)
