So, this is more like to vent out, but maybe others are feeling
like this as well: I have some peculiar interests, mostly involving
body swap stories, like the ones from the late 90s and early 2000s
on Fictionmania.
And I feel no one is writing those anymore. Truth be told, they
probably are, and you oftentimes will even see some of those here
and there on FM itself, but I think most of them you can't find. My
theory, and someone commented that on another thread as well:
There was a shift on how content is produce nowadays, there wasn't
a platform like Patreon back in the day, which would make easier
for people to sell their content, also, maybe people didn't hope
they would be paid for those stories, maybe there was less
assumptions, the social and economic context was also other... Be
that as it may, many writers nowadays publish their stories on some
paywalled platform – which, to be clear, I'm not complaining, they
have all the right to do whatever they prefer, they wrote it, it's
theirs – but this has as a consequence the fact that it is much
harder for one to randomly bump with a story or search for a
particular set of keywords, sense the content is behind a paywall,
you can't do that.
You can't go on patreon and say show me all stories that contain
the tags "switch bodies" and "tights" – or whatever you are
interested on, to eventually find an author you want to follow. So
you end up having to first find that author somehow, know his work
and then compromise and trust him enough to subscribe to him on a
given platform, while back in the day you didn't have to compromise
and you could wander around and end up bumping with something
really interesting that you otherwise would never find.
Also, in general search on most sites suck be honest and even the
sites that are open and where people can read TG stories without
having to pay (such as deviantart, which do have some interests
jams, if you really dig enough) these sites oftentimes don't offer
full text search – and you oftentimes can't rely that Google will
index all those pages either.
Honestly my hope is that those AIs capable of written text get
better in the coming decades and start being able to write
something really good, something that would be comparable to human
writers, sorta like we have been seeing with images with Midjourney
and Stable Diffusion. Although language models don't seem to be as
good yet. I played a little bit with Open-AI language model, and it
sorta is able to produce some interesting brief stories, but it
oftentimes gets confused. Especially due to how many TG stories
subvert reality expectations and social norms, therefore making it
hard for the algorithm to get things quite right. There is a thread
on that for those interested...

Anyway, just venting out here.
