Best AI writer
From: guest (Miwodin) , 20 months, post #1
Hey, over the past few months, I've tried out a few different AI writers and decided to see what peoples thoughts on them were.

AI Dungeon:
Used to be pretty decent but has fallen off hugely. Responses were never too detailed but would generally follow what you had wrote quite well and would offer a decent enough addition to your story. Now though, sticking this basic AI a pay wall makes it a poor choice to use now.

Dreamily:
This app looked very promising, using a welcoming layout and even offering you 3 options to move the story forward. Unfortunately, these options are normally pretty uninspiring. In my experience, they either add nothing new to what you have wrote or will offer some nonsensical addition, after having not followed the story that well so far.

OpenAI/API:
I found this site through this website and wow, it is hands down the best AI writer I've come across. When first writing out a scene, the AI will reply with quite vague/safe answers, but as you right more are more, the AI quickly learns what tone and direction you want to take the story in and will genuinely offer great suggestions and additions as to where the story should go.

The only downside to this AI is that it gives you a decent amount of allowance but then sharply locks you out until you pay for more. I'm yet to pay for the service to see if it's worth the price but the fact that you can only pay for the amount of characters/words it writes, rather than a monthly subscription, along with the fact that it can be quite slow with it's responses, is enough to put me off paying to use this more.

NovelAI:
Very similar to "AI Dungeon", this gives you a small allowance before then forcing you to sign up and then pay for more "character allowance". From my limited experience of using it, it had very "safe" responses and whenever it would try to be more adventurous, it would fixate on a suggestion and continue to offer that to you, rather than give you anything new.

As someone who enjoys writing but sometimes gets a bit of writer's block, I find these tools to be really useful but unfortunately, I haven't found anything that's good enough to pay for what they're charging.

I'd love to see what others think about these tools and if anyone has come across one that they think easily outshines the others in this field :)

For those interested, this thread has a lot examples of stories written by an IA:

I've been playing around with NovelAI for a few weeks and, while I'm enjoying it, it's very unwieldy for this type of writing, specifically body swapping or hopping, possession and other TG factors.

I feel it gets confused very quickly, and even when I correct it's output and try to lead it, it still doesn't like to play along. But it does generate some more interesting and leading moment to moment text where OpenAI, from testing, always seems to push general overviews.

With a good Module Novel AI Euterpe can do fetish content pretty good. I also like how they have unlimited generations for paid subscriptions. Privacy is also guaranteed with self hosted models and encryption as all the openAI services may end up on the web again like with dungeon ai or in their training data to ban content.

If people wanted to try a multiplayer AI Dungeon, I am down.

I experimented with novelai.net lately.
Here is what I have found out:

To get the best results (in my opinion) use the Config preset "Low Rider" and raise the output length to maximum 400.
Describe your scene in "Author's Note" like this:

[Scene: Sally is a 30 years old woman. She meets a magician who likes to turn people into animals.

Now write a simple first sentence like "Sally was standing in front of the magician."
Start generating.

If the generated Text goes in the wrong direction, use the Retry function to generate it again. If there are errors in the text, correct them immediately. Don't expect the story will fix itself in later generations.

Use the Memory area, if the story has made an important progress.
Like "Sally is now a horse."

Sometimes the AI just doesn't get it, so write a little explanation into the story, if the AI doesn't understand your story idea.

Use the incognito mode of your browser to outrun the trial limit, if you want to test the generator a bit more, before paying...

Ah, the board software has a problem here with brackets.
LEFT SQUARE BRACKET Scene: ... RIGHT SQUARE BRACKET
