I was wondering if anyone knows any story about a world in which
body swap technology was invented and it is used as a punishment,
sorta like an alternative to the death penalty. Criminals, like
murders and so on, have their personality erased and replaced with
the one of their victims. So, for instance, a man who killed a
little girl would – if the parents of that little girl wished –
have his personality replaced with the one of that little girl and
have "his" life spared.
The idea would be that, although body swap technology exists in
this world, it's practically impossible to implant that personality
(of the deceased child) into an actual child bodies due to it being
immoral/sheer lack of supply, so parents have the hard choice
between losing their daughter forever, or having the murder of
their daughter "become" their daughter. Also, to address the
"technical part' of how the process work, the idea would be that,
you can "capture/store" the personality of someone recently
deceased for a brief period, and then transfer it into the mind of
someone.
It's seems interesting the dynamic of a couple interacting with
someone who killed her daughter... but at the same time, for all
intents and purposes is someone exactly like their daughter.
There probably isn't any story precisely like that, but, who knows,
there might be some slightly similar, maybe someone might get
inspired and take this idea and give life to it, maybe even I
myself might give a try.
