Hey all,
I tend to like stories where the main character rejects or is
unhappy with changing genders (mostly enjoying MTF, and
magical/body swap transformations) and is exposed to "everyday
living" situations while they are changed. I also enjoy when the
author highlights the characters thoughts as they grapple with
their new body and that they are no longer male (examples below).
Lastly, I enjoy it when they never really "accept" their new body,
even though they may have to do female things in it, sexual or
otherwise. It's a bit of a humiliation kind of kink where it goes
away if the character is just all of the sudden okay with it.
Finally, I really enjoy when one or more male characters know that
the main character transformed and tease him about it.
I feel like this genre of story is becoming harder and harder to
come by, especially with books on Amazon. Nothing against those
plot lines, but just difficult to find anything fitting my
description there. Fictionmania has a lot of older gems, but newer
stuff seems to be focused on realistic changes or crossdressing
(again, no hate just not for me), and TG Storytime is harder to
search and often has unfinished stories.
These stories I feel scratch that itch the closest for me and I
would love if there are any recommendations similar to them :)
A Winter Trip's Twist by AshleyAllison
This is probably the best story that comes to mind for me. I think
the author does an amazing job highlighting how the main character,
unhappy to having been transformed for a ski trip, deals with
suddenly changing sex with small anecdotal lines about the
differences (e.g. "...peeing standing up for the first time in over
a week" or any of the dozens of times he notices his breasts). I
particularly like how the author continues to have the character
make these physical observations long after the initial
transformation. There's also bonus points for the main character
being changed into a girl while his male friends know and tease him
about it. The only "problem" is the character's acceptance of it
later on. It fits the story well, but I enjoy the first half a bit
better.
A Woman's Passion by Alan Barrie
Similar to the story above, I feel like the author does a good job
sprinkling in subtle feelings and differences throughout the story.
However, the story flows similarly to the one above where the
character becomes more comfortable in their changed body
The Dinner Group (A Virtual Vacation Coupon) by Xyzzy
While it doesn't go into as much detail about how the characters
are noticing their differences like the other books do, I like how
this story exposes the characters to a lot of "everyday living"
situations where the MTF character is out and about in their
changed form or has to hide a portion of his changed form.
Sorry, I didn't realize or mean for this post to get so long. So,
I'll keep this bit brief: Do any of you have any suggestions for
stories similar to these or that might have a few different
elements from them? Fictionmania, TG Storytime, or even a paid book
on Amazon would be amazing.

There was a whole series in Chile devoted to this. It's in Spanish,
but still worth watching.

Not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth, but unfortunately I
don't understand Spanish and wasn't able to find any subtitles. It
seems like it might be up my alley, but I wasn't really able to
understand what was going on outside of the scene at the time: he's
trying on clothes, he's in the shower, etc.
I appreciate the suggestion though. I'll see if maybe I can't find
some subs somewhere. Happen to know any stories like this? :)

One of my all time favorites:Throwing Like A Girl by Tar Baby on
fictionmania
We have somehow similar tastes so if you do not know it already,
you can give it a try.

Thank you for the story suggestion Karakov. It was a good story and
certainly hit on the "everyday living" aspect I like in a story. I
wish there would have been more of the character dealing with the
changes and noticing the differences in their physical body. The
parts that it did have, near the beginning, scratched the itch.
Unfortunately, the story faded into the character accepting being
female and even forgetting they were ever male. In my first post
(though it's probably hard to find in that massive bit of text) I
mentioned how difficult it is to find a story where the main
character resists the change throughout the entire story without
fully accepting they changed. Do you happen to have any
recommendations for a story like this?
Again, I appreciate the suggestion. It certainly was a good story
:)

There’s a story on TG Storytime that I have mixed feelings on
titled “Me and My Best Friend” by cheetaking243, and though it’s
unfinished and seemingly abandoned, there’re enough chapters that
make it fit this description. On one hand it’s nearly exactly what
you describe, but on the other hand, the main character is a child,
which made me really uncomfortable as I got older.
Basic set up is that Charlie, an 8-year old boy, suddenly becomes a
girl after his best friend’s make believe magic words turn out to
be real magic words.
On one hand the story hits nearly every specification you describe.
After the initial shock dies down, Charlie does not at all adapt
well to the change, with his despair and anxiety about it
increasing as the story goes on. He regularly comments on how
strange his body feels to him (especially since the story makes it
clear that this is his first time learning about the differences
between sexes), in his narrations (Charlie staring at his new
anatomy in bewilderment, how different he feels while walking, his
first time using the bathroom after the change, growing to hate his
new voice). Honestly the main positive of the story I can give is
that the author portrays realistic reactions to a spontaneous,
unexplained sex change.
On the other hand, Charlie is a child. There’s nothing super sexual
in the story (thank god) and based on the author’s notes, I don’t
think it’s meant to be a fetish story, but I personally found it
hard to sit through at times, to the point where I don’t really go
back to the story much anymore. Charlie narrates a lot about how
weird his new anatomy feels, there’s this one chapter I would
always skip where he showers for the first time post-change (I
can’t sit through it at all), and there are numerous scenes where
he’s standing naked, with himself or others (his parents, his
doctor, school bullies) reacting to his change.
Overall, If you read these things for the story and characters,
then I’d *maybe* recommend, albeit cautiously. but if you read
these for fetish material I absolutely do not recommend.

Not sure if it counts, but the manga "Shishunki Bitter Change"
might have some of what you're looking for.
Yui and Yuuta swap bodies at a young age, and both steadfastly
maintain their original genders and sense of self through many
years.

Thanks for the suggestions all!
@ Post #7: I appreciate the level of detail you gave in both the
story and the warning about the age of the characters. While it
does sound like this story has the elements I would be interested
in reading, I will pass on account of the main character's age and
your warnings. Again, thank you for both the suggestion and for the
warnings.
@ Post #8: I don't typically read manga, but I'll give a few
searches and check it out. Thank you!
@ Post #9: That was a pretty good story! I wasn't sure I would like
the character, but there were definitely portions of that story
which scratched the itch. I wish the character would have stayed a
bit more in the "woe is me" mood, but when they were they they had
a lot of what I was looking for. Thank you for the recommendation!
I recently started reading some of Gregor Daniels stuff with Kindle
Unlimited, and some of their work seems to come close. However, the
stories I have been reading have been either a complete HIT or a
complete MISS for my tastes. Some of their paid stories sound
promising, and I don't mind paying for them, but if there's any
recommendations there I'd happily pick up a few.
Anyone else have any recommendations?

Hi JustAFan!
Your tastes match mine quite well. Have you read AshleyAllison's
other story, "A Parental Incantation"? It's not finished, but
what's there is very well done.
Another hidden gem is "Breaking Inversion" by InverseAttraction
(also unfinished)
And finally, there is "You Throw like a Girl" by Vim. It's a
choose-your-own adventure style game on tfgames.site. Depending on
how your role-play the MC, you can continue resisting the changes
from beginning to end.
If you find anything else, I'd love to know about it!

The New Mrs Harris by Lejla on Fictionmania is one of the best
stories on that site (IMO the best) and ticks most of the boxes you
want. Its about a 16 year old boy who finds himself stuck in the
body of his 40 something year old neighbour, finding himself stuck
leading the life of a housewife with a boring job and high sex
drive.
