Which ones are your favourite swapping methods? As well as those that are not used that often, or some new ideas?

Trying to get some inspiration to write something out

From: cj , 37 months, post #2
Divine Intervention / Magic / Wish
Brain Transplant / Medical Technology
Technology (general)

So... pretty much anything. But personally, I'd prefer an actual transformation into a new person vs. a swap (see above list for the method of TF too).

hard to go wrong with the classic "machine swap" (i think it's actually the originbof body swap lore)

but yeah that's an easy pick for me, considering "swap class" is my favorite tag on caption blogs

I like to switch bodies with clothes. By swapping the body part with clothes (the last wearer) and can't transform back

I think I know what you're talking about momosam, there's an interactive story about that. It's called 'permanent clothing body part swap' or something like that on writing.com

How do you see something like swapping eyes that would cause a body swap per se. Taking the "see through others eyes" phrase to the maximum level.

Magic, specially when they transform into each other.

Alternate universe, where someone's reality changes into a universe where he was born a female. Also I like where two people fuse into one being, like in the Axe Fusion ads.

I posted this at TG Comics
.......

I find it not interesting when a story has a man and a woman or husband/wife swap bodies, then have sex with their former self, or stay married.

I certainly would not want to do so (-:

I love the role reversal in a situation such as where he becomes the woman he would have been, and she the man she would have been, if both born that way, or such.....But not having sex with your former self.

machine, potion, magic, super power, does not really matter to me

I prefer a gender swap to a body swap, because I dislike the idea of the abuse

why do I dislike body swaps? it feels sadistic and cruel and in large part rather disgusting.
example of that is - a father swapped into a child, just smells of pedophilia to me, and that is not my thing
A son swapped into his own mother... yeah, not into fantasies about sex with my father. I have father issues, but that... yeah, the idea....

I did have the pleasure of playing the shattered star modules in pathfinder, and ended up being the unsuspecting victim of the runelord trap. That is okay, because no one but my character is really affected by it

so a good old fashion magical transformation is fine with me and preferred

"not having sex with your former self."

With my current self, I agree. With my 25-30 y/o self... I'd probably be curious enough to at least try it once. And if it was a permanent swap/change... I'd try to find a way to hold on to my family and friends... but I'm not sure that I'd go so far as to being a love interest of a family member.

"swapped into a child"

As much as I'd love to be younger, swapping with a kid just feels wrong. I used to never think about the ethics of swaps until the subject was brought up here years ago - since then, I've preferred transformations over swaps. Though there are still ethical concerns of TFing into a kid (or a different gender even) too.

I've also been giving some thought into this thread, and wonder if the OP was really looking more for ideas about how these mechanisms of swap/TF work.

I think my main ones are (for swaps):
  • something happening in a dream, shared dream, or entering another person's dream to assist them with a nightmare.
  • red string.
  • some future / alien technology... a machine that transfers one's consciousness.
  • out of body experience.
  • divine intervention.
  • any of the methods that would involve magic.
I'm sure I've seen shows or movies and/or read stories with every single one of these types of methods used to swap the characters (and a few for TFs too).

I actually like the husband/wife swap trope. I know, it's super been done before, but it's a situation where at least each of them (should) have an idea about what the other's life is like. Hey, I liked Freaky Friday, too.

Is sex with your old body squicky? I dunno, most people have sex with their own body from time to time ;)

For methods, I prefer either magic or SF that might as well be magic. The whole "brain tape" trope is interesting, but to me it's like killing the old self and replacing it with a new person with your memories. That said, Beyond Rejection by Justin Leiber is one of my favorite books.

Body swaps by wishing or magic are my favorite trope thus far. Especially if both parties wish for it in secret or to each other, and then it happens.

I love the spirit / soul swap sometimes labeled astral projection. Usually F2F! Mirror checking out or seeing their differences is a big plus. Best example is atrevete a sonar and that brat tv stuck ep8
