Hypothetically let’s say the Genderwave by BobH appeared either
today or back in 2004 when the series was first conceived. Assume
that things will go as smoothly and civilisation won’t collapse
just like in universe. For meta purposes assume the Genderwave
didn’t exist as a piece of fiction.
How would you and your family react?

I've seen pictures of girl me with that app that was being used for
a while. I would be quite content.
I'm not sure how my family would react. I think most of them are
content being themselves as is. They might be shocked at how
enthusiastic I'd be to act feminine and dress different though.

I’d be too shy to wear anything feminine (skirts, etc) outside my
house or anything outright girly. I would probably just keep the
long hair, the basics such as a bra and perhaps some makeup.
As for feminine behaviour I’m not sure what that would entail but I
would probably be affected by it as time went on

I used to be very happy, but now I have a girl I like, I feel very

Yeah, and some people would not make great "opposite sex" versions
of themselves. I'd imagine some couple dynamics that work as they
are would no longer work if roles were reversed.
I think a lot of couples would end up breaking up.

Personally i am more interested on the concept of "The Great
Shift", like people swapping bodies with people near them.
Although, to prevent society from collapsing, I imagine the event
would have to swap people with someone near them (to avoid a
complete fragmentation of society, like people who speak different
languages and with different knowledges being all lumped together),
and there should be a number of people on society, I don't know 30%
or something that wouldn't be affected...
