Contrary to the author of that article, MCU Skrull's shapeshifting ability is one of their physical traits. Although, Talos mentioned that not every Skrulls has the ability to shapeshift, and it requires a lot of training to perfect it. In addition, theatrical Skrulls seems to choose their gender preference in accordance to their original physical traits just like us, as they showed having husband, wife, and child.

In my observation, I think their suit is the one that gives them the ability to mimic their target's clothes. And I think its also the reason why the fake Carol never got the chance to change his suit back.

What you see is infact all about surfer girl other than that takes form of carol in a brief scene and an extrmely short sequence of that black lady pilot and old lady in subway rest are m2m.
