The only issue I see is that mods need to have the ability to fully
delete troll threads and block repeat offender's IPs or something.
But a lot of the complaints here seem kinda dumb. Who cares if
someone wants a story or video identification request? Or if
someone needs help finding a story. Google doesn't always yield
good results. And it's nice to come to a place of fellow
enthusiasts of this subject matter who might be able to help.
I just don't think this place is nearly as bad as some of the users
here are making it out to be.

It is obvious when someone has not put any effort into looking for
something and just adds another worthless question, they could've
answered themselves, posted to the message board.
There is a search function to the message board to find out if
something has already been discussed, and another post about it is
not needed.

The problem with blocking IPs is that it is common for trolls and
other malicious abusers to try to hide their location/identity by
using TOR, VPN, etc. which can obfuscate their true IP address...
or even by them choosing to connect from different locations.
Depending on the severity of the abuse, even these stealthy steps
can be undone. But it takes some effort on the part of the victim
(say, this site). The nice thing is that the abuser's identity CAN
be revealed most of the time. Depending on their location, and the
jurisdiction of the website... the abusers may find themselves with
legal fees and fines and/or even being BILLED for the time involved
with the maintenance of the site and the investigative fees
incurred by their abuse. I would even entertain that messing with
certain sites/entities could even result in physical injury or
death (say, someone in Russia messing with Putin's homepage).
Unless our troll continues to be a burden, or ups their game, it is
likely they'll go unpunished.
Basically, the best thing we can do (for now) is to ignore their
narrow-minded, simple, and ignorant opinion.

"difference between hate speech and speech you hate"
There sure is.
That's why the moderators decisions are able to be checked/balanced
by all the other moderators.
Also note that removed posts don't have to be either "hate speech"
or "speech you hate",
they simply have to run afoul of the Posting Guidelines
... most of the removed posts buck:
- All discussions must be transformation related OR of interest to
the transformation community.
and/or
- Be polite, courteous, and respectful. Please keep the conversations
civil.
or the intellectual property guidelines.

Speaking of blocking ips, the last time a big troll strike
happened, i noticed that the site blocks me whenever i use my
cellular data, but when im on my own house wifi everythings fine, i
never said anything because it barely inconvenienced me

I'm sure the big guy has some IP addresses blocked for various
reasons. Sorry that you are one of the affected Moose... and glad
that your home connection still works.

This site is dying still and the trolls have probably created more
problems. can we switch the site to registration only, please? I'm
sick of trolls.

Personally, I think the posts where people ask questions that have
answers in other threads should be welcome. If people just answered
the questions instead of saying "lol there's a thread about this
already", then I feel like there'd be way more message activity.
It makes the site look more active. Also, some of the questions are
more complicated than typing in a sentence into the Search bar.
I've used this site for maybe 6 years now. It took me half a year
before I realized that the Search bar beneath Guidelines isn't the
same as the Search bar inside of the Message board.

- 152,
Those threads you complaints about are necessary. so the mods could
take actions to remove the troll threads that are harmful for this
site.
- 153,
Don't be rude please. No personal attacks.

What are you talking about? You addressed your post as reply to
post 152 and 153 but you are yourself 152? I am confused.
|
From: guest (Jenak)

Hi Ku @Post#153,
There was earlier a post 152 complaining that half of the threads
on first page are threads complaining about trolls. Then there was
a reply in post 153 where the person criticize post#152. I guess
those two posts were deleted by the mods before I sent my reply.
That's probably why those two posts no longer available and my
reply now is shown as the new post#152 and yours as #153. Hope this
clears the confusion.

I;m really tired of coming to this site because of all the drama. I
like TGComics forum because they have registration. Can anybody
else recommend a similar site that doesn't have so many trolls?

tbf, it's all because of one bad apple, busterman zero.the only
hope for this site is banning his IP address but that won't happen.
even if he was banned, the dude would get a VPN. also content has
stagnated because of Hollywood factors. big-budget stuff this place
normally covers has dried up mostly. just my opinion.

@Kiyohime
Unfortunately, I do not have the ability to change the way that
this site operates in terms of blocking/banning people, nor do I
have the kind of access or decision-making ability to create a
registration-only policy. I am merely one of the moderators here
that was given that privilege shortly before cj left. I can
certainly bring the matter up to Paul, the site manager...but the
ultimate decision making ability has always been his.

Of course, do what you can. I don't expect anything that grand
really. I've merely identified the problem, it's the management's
choice what to do with it. still, thank you for responding.

All these posts, site is dying, in decline, etc...
Thread is 56 months old.
This site was created in 1998. It's old enough to drink and is
probably older than you are.
