The men's final is at 2 p.m. BST (9 a.m. Eastern/6 a.m. Pacific),
so I would guess the Dr. Who announcement would be between 2-4
hours after then, depending on how many sets are needed for the
match.

Please let it be a woman,I still watch the show in whoever they
choose but by a story perspective it would change things up alittle
and it would be interesting to see.

Most of the rumored names are apparently female. Jodie Whittaker is
the favorite.

I don't watch Doctor Who, so it may be my place to speak on this,
but... it seems kind of silly to make a fuss about a woman playing
the Doctor when the character has been played by twelve different
actors, each with a very different take on the character. This
isn't the same as Thor, where they're replacing one character with
a completely different character; and this isn't something like
Battlestar Galactica, where they're completely rebooting a
character as the opposite sex. They're taking a character who's had
several different incarnations and giving him/her yet another
incarnation that's different from the others, just like every
incarnation is different from the others. It seems like this would
open up new story possibilities, which seems important for a series
that's been around for the 1960s.
I'm sure there will be people who stop watching Doctor Who over
this... but I may actually consider watching it for the first time
ever. So, y'know.

Missy was a fun take because of the actress so I'll give Jodie's
Doctor a shot. I do fear that giving her a _presumably) female
companion will cause male fans to see this as a "girl's
show"/female-centric. A male as the primary companion would even
things out a little.

Well guaranteed TG alert for Christmas! I for one want to give her
a chance. Whittaker's acting and Chibnall's writing will go a long
way in determining the future success of this show.

@DaveS - Yes, I suspect a lot of people will be tuning into the
Christmas Special & especially from my perspective as a
transformation fan, I want to see how the regeneration is handled
this time round.
As a Doctor Who fan, I'm glad that Moffat is moving on, and we're
getting a new show-runner as well. My favourite period of New-Who
is still RTD writing for David Tennant.

In 1969, Patrick Troughton's was given several regeneration choices
which he refused them all. There were either too young, too old,
too tall, fat, skinner and over of the them was a women. So the
idea that the Doctor can regenerate into a woman has been there for
at least 48 years.
When a new actor takes on the role of the Doctor, I like to see
what spin they will give the character. I look forward to see Jodie
Whitaker take on the task.

I suspect there's already "come, screw yourself" fanfiction, but
there will be lots more now.
