This thread is a great opportunity to have a nice section for a searchable source for Good TG Novels. Please try to put things in this thread, that 1) Are novels, and 2) Have a Transformation.

Should have thought of these sooner. The first one especially is probably one of the most high profile if not the most high profile book to fall into this category.

How about:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myra_Breckinridge

and

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myron_(novel)

I know the descriptions kind of put these (well at least the first one) on the fence a bit but there seems to be some supernatural elements in there, especially in the sequel. Well, at the very least things not easily explained by science.

Ok, another few books:

Whisperwren series
Wizurple series
Greta series

All by Tommie Fremouw

Magic, fantasy, many transformation - MtF, FtM, Doll, Age Reg...

They are quite good, but author has specific manner of writing.

The Turning by Mark Barwell

Militant feminists release a bioweapon that slowly turns men into women and a group of friends deal with their transformations while the shy guy in the group becomes a "last man on earth" ladies man.

Well Air Gear if your going old school how about I will Fear No Evil by Robert Heinlein

From: Air Gear , 80 months, post #46
Good point. Might as well throw in Number of the Beast as well, then (though in that case, it's just a small amount with one character, I think - also I didn't like it).

From: guest , 80 months, post #47
Really enjoyed Brother Bewitched.

The Turning. Not exactly Y the Last Man, is it?

From: guest (Thesaint) , 80 months, post #49
@Air Gear. Ha! Actually, I can't believe I never made the comparison. I think Y is much more apocalyptic while Turning is a comedy

From: Air Gear , 80 months, post #50
Well, yes. Y the Last Man sort of has almost every man on Earth dropping dead right at the start and most of the rest not long afterwards, so there's that.

The Passion of New Eve. A group of feminist nazis make a man be a mother to the new race. Worth the read if you can find it. Its pretty brutal. I read it about 30 years ago some of those scenes are still with me.

From: guest (Fed Up) , 80 months, post #52
"Y the Last Man" is not TG, why even bring it up? Private message each other if you want to gab.

From: Air Gear , 80 months, post #53
Well actually we'd finished talking about it until you brought it up but OK.

From: guest , 79 months, post #54
If you are into children book "Is he a girl?" by Louis Sachar is pretty good too...

From: guest (Fed Up) , 79 months, post #55
That is not a novel. It is a short story.

From: guest , 79 months, post #56
I bought Dragon princess and im a 1/4 of the way through, i must ask does the tg detail increase or is it like that throughout the book and sequels? I would like a little more exploration than what it is so far.

From: Random , 79 months, post #57
It remains the same throughout the books. The books are primarily comedies/straight fantasy as opposed to erotica, so even if something happens in the books it is glossed over in the narrative. Think of it more as a book where TG stuff happens, rather than a TG Book(if that makes any sense).

Oh well... Thanks for the reply.

'My Lady, My Lord' by Katherine Ashe is the one novel I keep going back to - it's written as a Regency romance version of the film 'It's A Boy/Girl Thing' and it definitely shows, but there's enough freshness to distinguish it as its own thing. Good bit of exploration on the part of the two characters that swap, although nothing too graphic until after the characters swap back.

"Breeds of Man" by F.M. Busby - In response to a declining population, scientists create humans that cycle between genders on a monthly basis.

"Cycler" by Lauren McLaughlin - Girl changes gender once every two weeks for unknown reasons, develops Dissasociative Identity Disorder as a way of coping, but one personality will sometimes show up too early and gets to watch as the TF finishes.

"300 Rains" by Heather O'Maley - Haven't read, but Amazon's search program shows that it features a slow MtF due to a magic ritual. Happens in stages, rather than gradually.

Almost anything by Karin Bishop or Tanya Allan
