Mom/son Headswap on Youtube

Yes einigmaminded.. what I'm leaning towards is doing a narrative broken up into parts that is modern version of mother/son and father/daughter swap and what it is like living each other's lives based on at first thinking its easy to be the other one. Im taking a lot of feedback from you guys into account mixed with my imagination. If you haven't checked it out we did an earlier swap called "Bedtime Battles" so been playing with different concepts from inception of the channel and I'm interested in exploring more.

Yes MrJay daughter is Victoria. That would be super funny.. Only thing is that she is 3 and while she can talk, she can't exactly talk on cue. So maybe have a voice over of what she is thinking?

If you guys haven't checked it out, check out this one from earlier on. i have silly sense of humour but whatever.. lol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcPyhBXsNPc&t=23s

Yes, that´s a good idea!
And you can put your voice on Victoria, and she can talk and say a few words, like: "why am I so little?" or "what´s wrong with my voice" that would be fun.

Cool, cool MrJay

From: guest (A friend) , 84 months, post #25
Or consider using a family friend as the daughter. Do you have an older niece?

From: guest (James hergott) , 84 months, post #26
Yes theres others we can use. But i do like the idea of seeing thing from a 3 year old perspective because its such a harder stretch. Ill give it a think.

Thanks for considering my idea. It would be really fun if you made this video.
If you do, a good idea to the story could be that after you the body swap or get turned into Victoria, your wife take this opportunity to put you in a pink dress.

Personally I vote for Freaky-Friday style, and mother-son. Especially if it could be combined with what post #15 suggested---some sort of comparison of bodies, either working out or at a pool etc. "son having to wear a woman's swimsuit because he has his mom's body" would be all sorts of hilarity. Or having to be ogled by the guys at the gym while trying to exercise (or something like "had to attend yoga class instead of his normal bench-pressing routine")...

If you look up my background you will see how funny the gym stuff is to me.. i can definitely use my body as well for some interesting situations.

+1 for the voiceswaps, preferably male voices on girls

Hi, James. I'm not going to give content suggestions like others, but rather what is--hopefully--constructive feedback on the technical side, since your previous post seemed to ask for. But first...

i have a serious production background but i don't normally edit myself. .. i just do this as a family project. So ill keep improving it but don't have a cgi house

I'm genuinely curious what your production background is. This sort of stuff interests me. :-)
---

That software you're currently using is disturbing! I don't want to be undiplomatic, but frankly, I'm surprised this work was so well received. I've seen the interwebs cruelly tear into higher quality stuff. I realize you're just doing it on-the-quick and for-the-fun, but, that head re-positioning must have been time consuming and unpleasant for you. It was fingernails-down-a-chalkboard for me. If your actors are fidgeting back and forth, make them aware not to. And, if that doesn't work, have your boy stand between two things touching his shoulders or lean against a wall. You can avoid having to play Whack-A-Mole getting the head on the neck.

Also, if you keep the camera the same distance away from the actors, the heads and bodies would mostly fit rather than being creepily (and not humorously) large.

Okay, so, technical stuff:
You don't need a production house if you're going to be doing SFX. Here's an annoying orange tutorial for blender but there are others if you wanna search for them. You can just watch the last six minutes and see what it can do and you wouldn't even have to watch about the "color matching" part that takes up the last two minutes. Yeah, you're gonna need way more than four minutes to learn these processes, but you can afford to do it over weeks (or months) depending on your free-time if you can google/youtube the appropriate tutorial. They are out there. :-)

Again, I realize you are just doing this on the fly. I just think on-going projects/processes should involve relating results to planning--or better still--the other way around.

Hopefully that's useful and not offensive. Good luck! :-)

Hi VUP,

Thanks for the constructive criticism. I appreciate it. Yes body movement was an issue and those tips are good. As you said a lot of it is for fun and playing around with different concepts.

Im a producer, director by trade and you can check out my background at jameshergott.com

Mostly i have done documentary work. I had never done green screen and on bigger productions had a post production house, or smaller ones I've always been the one hiring editors, cameramen etc. My primary skill was being a story teller/writer and also overseeing projects. My weakness was always the technical. I even had an editing system in my house in mid 2000's but always had people working on it.. i never thought i had the patients for that kind of work and always liked to be the big concept person.

Starting a youtube channel I found myself as the most competent editor in the household lol and kind of found it liberating to buy my own camera and to shoot and edit instead of just direct for a change. I had never done anything with green screen before and even though my editors always use final cut or premier I simply use iMovie. I find it kind of fun and liberating to be self taught and taking myself out of my comfort zone. A lot of it is experimentation and having fun.

I hope that explains things.. in any case its an interesting journey for me.. I don't try and make the videos perfect.. i just try and get them entertaining and learn and improve..

Doing a narrative without any special effects would be much easier for me .. i kind of wonder why i didn't start doing this stuff on my own before but I guess I always knew others were better at shooting and editing.. and i was good at working with people and ideas..

I appreciate your time and feedback.

I don't know if it is possible, but is it possible to affix a certain area in a video to static area? For instance, if both people wore a necklace that had a big green dot on it and you used that as an anchor point to make tracing a but easier

It's a cute idea, but I'd be happy with just a clothes swap to begin with... since the video says 'Clothes and Body swap' I assumed there'd be a bit of both :)

From: guest (Wo) , 84 months, post #35
Hi James. Great works, much funny! I prefer body swap (freaky friday style).
For new work this is my idea: an series of body swap mom/son... for example mom son swap bodies and like other ideas the son(in the mom's body) go to work or poop , so there is the fun part change clothes and pretending to be her, and the mom teaches how to do it... and another episode go to gym etc...
James what do you think about it?

From: DB Cooper , 84 months, post #36
I sure hope that was a weird autocorrect and Wo meant 'go to work or SCHOOL.'

From: guest (Wo) , 84 months, post #37
yes, sorry... * work of school

From: guest (Cookie Momster) , 84 months, post #38
@DB Cooper and @Wo: lol on the autocorrect/typo!!

@ Ribby: Here's the link to their first clothes swap video: https://goo.gl/CRlWOs part 2 is coming out today!!!

m2fb: Im sure its possible, especially with the right software. I was basically experimenting. The hardest part is when the person doing the head sways a lot... in the couple body swap you will see less issues. At this point i basically used a green screen effect covering the heads and then bodies and matching them up in editing. The enlarged heads came from having to cover up some neck issues..

Ribby.. we have a new clothes swap: http://bit.ly/2pJ8jlE

Wo: Next up will definitely be parents and kids inhabiting each others bodies and whats its like. Not exactly sure all the themes to be covered but will start with a couple episodes and if it is well received will continue into more themes and concepts.. and yes work and school etc. definitely on the agenda..
