"Mixing sexuality and teen angst with an undercurrent of sci-fi,
this bold fantasy follows a gay disabled teen who undergoes a
mysterious procedure that gives him the body of a young able-bodied
woman in order to pursue his love object. Exploring how our bodies
shape who we are and how we are perceived, Pulse is a modern day
parable for the young, the queer, the disabled and for anyone who
has ever struggled with their sexuality, their desires, and
essentially, themselves. We are excited to be screening this debut
feature from writer/actor Daniel Monks & director Stevie
Cruz-Martin"

Could possibly ask if there is going to be a release on Itunes or
something.

Easily the best bodyswap premise we've seen in a while, I agree
with the above. And I hope we all support independent movies and
productions like this when we see them. The bodyswap trope is one
of the most interesting things we can think of when it comes to
identity and relationships, and the way recent media have been
handling it (I won't spoil certain recent movies) really makes me
feel like we're in an upswing of great content. But who knows.
Please keep us updated with what goes on with this.

I agree Easily. It's nice seeing a TG bodyswap attempt something
outside of the genre of comedy. There's a lot of interesting layers
to this premise.
The actress who plays Olivia (Ollie after the swap) has a bunch of
images from the movie on the IMDB page.

I like how this movie deals with how the character's friends and
family react. Kind of an metaphor (analogy?) for people who
transition.
Anyway, I don't want to get my hopes but about bodyswaps going
mainstream but between this and that Anime that became the highest
grossing film in Japan, it looks like the genre might be evolving

some clips from the movie are in this actresses showreel. Looks
like the movie has a cinéma vérité or mumblecore feel to it.

2 clips from the movie featuring the guy in the girls body.
The first is right at the beginning. The second is at 3:17

Is this movie a bodyswap, brain transplant, or a surgery
transformation?

I think it's a sci-fi consciousness swap. One of the clips implies
that the girl was brain dead so instead of an organ donor she
donated her whole. In the trailer it looks like the character
visits her old body in in the hospital.

This sounds... beautiful and deep!!! I literally started to applaud
after watching this trailer!
This movies seems to be pretty interesting, especially because,
unlike many body swap, that usually that concentrate themselves in
cheap comedy, the trailer seem to be a more deep, I miss this in
body swap content, like... making something more than one more
comedy or romantic film.
Thank you for posting this here

I totally agree with that, I was waiting that some show such as
"Black Mirror" toke this approach. I think the idea of changing
your body rises a lot interesting issues to be debated and discuss.
And not only portrayed as a funny plot device, like in movies such
as "Freak Friday"

Thank you, thanks to you I googled about what the heck was "cinéma
vérité" and ended up finding this great documentar called "Cinéma
Vérité: Defining the Moment" talking about this.

You're welcome, WhiteTights. I want to see that movie now!
I also found out that Australia has a kickstarter site called
Pozible and Pulse was funded through there. Here's their pitch
video.

Oh, that's so cool! I didn't know that, but seeing how the movie
seems to be, it makes all the sense that it found people that were
willing to financing it

A new synopsis with a few more details
Five Must-See Films at the 2017 Melbourne Queer Film Festival
Pulse
A true original, this Australian film mixes grounded drama with
fantastical sci-fi. A gay, disabled teenager undergoes a procedure
to swap bodies with a young woman. Finally able to engage in things
he’d only ever dreamed about – be it sex with the guy from the
footy team, admitting love for his best friend, or gossiping about
boys with his girlfriends – the young man quickly discovers the
struggles of being a woman and another kind of outsider.
