Im sure we've all stumbled upon unmarked clips from certain shows
where the uploader has provided no info or you find a potential
show/movie but have a hard time finding clips online. I figured
this thread we could share some of our tips to use when searching
for these things. Even if they seem obvious. They might help
someone out.
As for me. I swear by google translate. If simply googling a tv
series or movie title doesn't turn up results. Ill translate the
title into another language and try to find it on a foreign site.
When I find clips of a show without a title. Ill try a few things.
Ill look at comments first to see if anyone has already named it.
If not, ill check and see if there are any hints as to the channel.
A BBC logo or Disney watermark in the bottom corner. If I find one
(for example a clip with Mermaids and the BBC logo) Then ill try
using keywords like "BBC Mermaid" in google to narrow it down.
If all else fails ill screenshot a few moments in the clip (ones
with clear shots of the actors faces helps). Upload them to my
image hosting site of choice and then use a google reverse image
search to see if any matches come up. It's a lot of effort but you
would be surprised at how often this has helped. Sometimes it will
pull up the exact clip but with all relevant info and sometimes it
will pull up the name of the actor so you can use that to narrow
down your search.
What kinda tips do you guys have?

- Try to recognize the language being spoken (if native) and/or used
in the titles and/or credits, to help narrow the search to specific
country of origin.
- Sometimes, I recognize an actor or actress, and I'll search for
their work on IMDB.
- If an actor or actress looks similar to one I know, I'll search for
actors or actress who look like them, and then search through their
IMDB list of work.
- If I can guess the time period that the movie or episode was either
made in and/or made to portray, I can sometimes use that data to
help narrow the search or filter the results.
- Character names.
- Unique names or lines or phrases sometimes help, if you encounter
them.
- Sometimes the opening or ending of episodes (if the clip includes
them) can be quite helpful, as generally there will be someone out
there who recognizes it.

Reverse image search is a great tip I've never tried, Jedha! I'll
have to see how that works. It's a shame that if we do get more
good information like we already have, no one will know about it in
a few weeks when it falls from the first page into obscurity

Great idea, Jedha!
@Polover
We should have a pinned post system here.
