I haven't saved any of my work either. This is more or less me
saying that I have no interests in capping anymore. I've lost my
luster for it.

Sorry to hear that penguinattack. I hope that you recover from your
disillusionment, and find again something that sparks the fire in
your soul.

Just gotta to say, as a former captioner myself I totally get the
reason for quitting. After a while captioning become a drug, and it
can be hard to quit. As much as we might be disappointed that there
is one less captioner out there, I commend you for doing what is
best for you.

As a former captioner (really new only ran my blogspot 6 months)
who is thinking of restarting captioning is there any advice you
can give me? I remember I used to set crazy deadlines like a post a
day every 2 days. I'm trying to limit things down to a post a week
or a post every 2 weeks and only doing posts I enjoy.
This is just my opinion but as a former captioner I think it's our
duty to maintain captions for people to enjoy. Deleting content is
counter productive and I think there should be a better way of
quitting. Changing the password of your account to something really
long and random and copying and pasting it two times so you don't
remember lets you quit peacefully knowing you can never access that
site again. As said before you should do what is best for you.

@sinfulswapper
It seems like you're on the right track with giving yourself more
time between caps. Personally, I say just don't worry about
"deadlines". Post when you want and definitely focus on content
that you enjoy first and foremost.
Sometimes I post a few caps a week. Sometimes I post a single cap
every two weeks. What I never do though is stress about it. Stress
will burn you out.

@sinfulswapper
Just wanted to throw my two cents with regards to your question:
1) First of all, the best advice that people have told me about
captioning (and it is one i struggle with personally myself at
times) is that captioning and blogging is supposed to be "fun."
This is an extension with which to express and showcase your
creative outlet in this little niche we call TG. I sometimes forget
that myself, and it takes good friends in this community (with one
notable example being my own partner on our blog) to remind me of
this.
2) Don't feel obligated to post the material people want, because
trust me, your caption quality is not going to reflect that if you
have no vested interest. As people say, focus on the content that
interests or excites you. I struggle with creating certain captions
with subject matter that I just don't really have any inclination
for, for example, body swaps involving underage children. it just
doesn't do anything for me.
3) i'd say set up a structured schedule as best as you can. You can
make allowances for delays due to real life, that's a given. But
everyone leads different lives and have different real life
responsibilities. This is another thing that I myself forget. I see
how some caption blogs are wildly popular and post quite
frequently, never breaking a routine. It sparks a competitive edge
in me but in a practical sense because of my RL i could never
maintain that level. Overall, a routine is good, but do one that
fits you, not match those of others.
4) My own biggest personal advice: if you caption, don't half-ass
it. Really put in the effort and create an engaging story (of
whatever length you choose). If you have time to play with
aesthetics and appearance, that's great. If not, no big deal. Not
everyone will like your work, but there are some that do, they are
around.
5) A newest suggestion (which I myself will try to do soon):
feedback. If someone bothers to comment on your work in a positive
manner, reply back. Show humility and appreciation, and if they
criticize, take it in stride and make corrections if warranted. I
used to somewhat gripe that communication is difficult to achieve
in this niche medium, but now I realize that we as captioners would
benefit from making an effort to reach out to our readers and fans.
Anyways, that's my two cents. Good luck on your return to
captioning!

Ha ha thanks DocVs I'm a big fan of your Twisted Tg. Sorry for
hijacking the thread penguinattack and CJ. Overall this has been
really good advice for any aspiring captioner to avoid being burned
out.

I, for one, will miss your captions. I've been feeling the burnout
when it comes to my tg stories, though, so I understand. Best of
luck in your future efforts!

You say that like it's a bad thing guezst1.
It's always nice to know when someone throws in the towel, rather
than having them disappear without a trace. Sometimes, we get
concerned when someone goes inactive for awhile, and it can
generate many questions... so letting the world know what's going
on can be a nice thing.
