So Hollywood just called. They want your to create your dream TF
film (or TV episode/series). You have unlimited funds and access to
virtually any actor. So...what's your project?
|
From: cj

There are too many actors, actresses, scenarios, and stories...
movies, shorts, and mini-series must be out. It would have to be a
television series... and not just CSI
or Law & Order
(or Simpsons
) size... No, think Another World
or The Young & The Restless
lengths.
But... which universe to focus on... hmmm... Well, since they do
coma dream things to explain away shifts in direction or to bring
back someone who previously died... I guess I could shift into
other universes with that device.
No... I think something a bit like Sliders
but we wouldn't have resolution at the end of every episode...
perhaps we'd be stuck in a universe for an entire season.
Eh, I don't know. Just an idea. It would take someone much more
skilled and creative than I pull off something good.

I'm going to piggyback on CJ's comment and say that it would be
best if it were a successful TV series (for longevity instead of
waiting years for one movie...Sam I'm looking at you). I have
considered this a few times and I think I will combine some of my
ideas for this. For one, in order to have a revolving list of
actors/actresses, and to combine some of my ideas, I think of
Quantum Leap meets The Jersey meets various tropes. I know people
don't like QL style swaps but my idea is that it is a group of
people who are able to swap bodies, across time and space,
sometimes willfully and sometimes uncontrollably. I agree that it
wouldn't be a "monster of the week" formula but an arc over each
season (or half season) where the characters try to learn more
about the body they inhabit. The problem is that the more time they
spend in that body the more they turn into the body, so the
audience can see the main character turn into the actor (and if
it's a swap, the actor in the original body) while they may also be
dressed or act as them. This also adds pressure as they have to try
to prevent the person's life-altering event (or themselves learn a
lesson, or even both of them learn something in a swap), before
they become the other person permanently.
So yea.......that.

I was actually thinking a bit about the Quantum Leap thing and the
various actors and actresses they used. Instead of always having
the same body when entering a new world / universe, they could
instead be transferred as non-physical material, and either wind up
in a very similar body (same actor/actress), or a very different
one. That would introduce a new mechanism to define.

"... the more time they spend in that body the more they turn into
the body, so the audience can see the main character turn into the
actor (and if it's a swap, the actor in the original body) while
they may also be dressed or act as them..."
I've always wondered how Sam Beckett could fit into all those other
peoples' clothes... especially when he was a woman.
But that gradual change thing would be neat.

No actors that I can think of
A disease ravages the world killing 80% of the population.
A secret military facility uses surrogates (android bodies) to
explode the outside world, gather supplies, work towards a cure,
much action, and much travel.
The main characters are two fold- the guys that are in beds back on
base and the android bodies that go around 24/7 with new "drivers"
every eight hours or so.
The drivers are males and females, and they trade bodies each time
they take up a new one.
In the end a lightning strike shorts out the android's systems, the
feed back kills several of the drivers and leaves them in their
android bodies- several of them in the wrong gender.
I was thinking a TV series or three movies, but defiantly not one
short movie.

well, a little fantasy of mine, know it may not be realistic, but
three teenagers being transformed into katy perry, kim kardashian
and iggy azalea and having to act as them until the find a way to
change back and also needing to find the women who are now lost in
their fomer bodies, at the middle point, having found themeselves
(in both body and soul?) they are once more changed but now they
turn into teenage celebrities bella thorne, selena gomez and
elizabeth gillies and the twist this time is that they've become
the characters from the shows and now separated they must find a
way back into the real world and this time they would slowly stat
losing themselves in the character, eventually they would go back
to the real world but in the bodies of the celebrities they began
they're journey, they change back but discover that both the trio
of celebrities and themselves have grown acostumed and fond of
they're temporary forms sow they decide to trigger the change and
the celebrities live on as teenagers and the boys as curveaceous
celebrities happily ever after :D

Get Lalola
done properly in English but also make it so it had its own unique
story elements and not only things that had happened in one of the
13 other series plus additional pilots and the like.

I would want a television series (or film) based on the Dial H for
Heroes universe where a device allows ordinary people to
temporarily become superheroes. There's this one story of a macho
man accidentally turning into a hot female superhero. I would want
stuff like this to happen.

- Three, maybe four guys wake up on a small boat (with nothing to
wear but bikinis) helmed by a captain who explains how they all got
cursed into being girls and he's going to sail his/her craft to all
the remote locations which have the items/ingredients they need to
change back . They can go with him but they have to be his/her
crew. Awkward adventures and occasional humiliation ensue.
Kidnapping, aphrodisiac spells, amazon fights, girly clothes,
having to date overly-amorous millionaires to get access to places
and things. Stupid stuff like that. I'd cast cute girls who look
convincingly like girl versions of the original guys.
or
- There was an episode in the first season of Buffy where Amy's witch
mom wanted her daughter to make the cheerleading team but she
failed. The witch starts using magic to injure/kill the
cheerleaders to open a berth on the squad before swapping bodies
with the daughter so she can do it herself.---In this version,
instead of the mom switching bodies w/ her daughter, she makes a
younger more athletic brother take the daughter's place while the
daughter is put under a sleep spell. The school decides there have
been too many "accidents" happening to the cheerleaders so they
close off the replacements' tryouts for the year. The brother is
told he will have to stay as his sister making friends with and
impressing the existing members of the cheerleading squad so "he"
will get picked for the squad when they re-open tryouts next year
and if he makes the team, only then will the witch-mom change him
back and waken his sister so they can resume their lives. I'd cast
someone cute and kinda' short as the sister/would-be cheerleader.

I'd make some sort of teen gender bender, where they either switch
bodies or the guy has to pretend to be a girl for a while. But in
my version, they don't/can't switch back.

@DB Cooper:
Okay, since--as per your OP--Hollywood called, when's it come out?
I'll watch!
Although...it sounds familiar, but...
~sigh~ they always change back, huh.
Also, (I over-think things sometimes) when they don't
change back, isn't that where the real story starts? I wanna
explore that, although, apparently, I'm a freak amongst weirdos.

Some movie ideas I'd go with:
1.) A horror film, involving a creepy, psychotic loser, sort of
like "Buffalo Bill" from SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, but in reverse, and
with a supernatural twist... basically, he has found a way, through
dark magical means, to change men (who he's kidnapped, one by one)
into sexy women. Each victim, imprisoned in his secluded lair, is
changed (a fairly rapid, though gradual, tf process... roughly
around the duration of the DEATHSTALKER gender tf, maybe a little
bit longer), subsequently raped (because he's a sick,
sexually-frustrated bastard), and then killed in a Lovecraftian
ritual, as a pact payment to The Dark Ones, who have given the
villain his magical power, and wish to re-enter and reign over our
world, once the requisite number of defiled, newly-female victims
is reached, in sacrifice, to allow this.
The authorities have no solid leads, since any newly-female dead
that might be found have no legal identities or history, the DNA
doesn't match the men who have periodically gone missing, and the
killer is smart enough not to leave clues, when abducting them.
However, his latest victim, though stunned by her transformation,
manages to be quick and resourceful enough to evade his
rape-and-kill ritual, and experiences a night of escalating terror,
as she nervously seeks revenge, or at least escape.
Perhaps the story starts as a mystery, with unidentified female
corpses turning up, and an undercover male cop on the case
eventually ending up as the main-character abductee/transformation
victim... or else it could be a tale that doesn't involve the
authorities much at all, just random victims (with one who
triumphs), as in most classic slasher films.
2.) A wild comedy (imagine if Edgar Wright (SCOTT PILGRIM, SHAUN OF
THE DEAD) directed a tg/tf-themed version of ANIMAL HOUSE, by way
of WEIRD SCIENCE). On a college campus, a strange, handheld object
(could be sci-fi device, like a ray gun or remote control, or a
magical object) suddenly materializes in the student lounge, which
allows the user(s) to swap the sex of themselves or others
(examination shows many variants... instantaneous, gradual,
shapeshifts, bodyswaps, size changes, etc). After the initial
discovery, it eventually becomes a free-for-all of hi-jinx, pranks
and schemes.
3.) A fantasy-adventure, in which two life-long, straight-male
friends inadvertently tangle with a dangerous, malevolent modern
sorcerer. One friend is hit with a slow-transformation
gender-change spell (like the curse in Stephen King's THINNER, or
the aging spell inflicted on Lori Singer in WARLOCK ('89)), so
experiences the growing dread of (unwillingly) losing his
size/strength/masculinity, little-by-little... while his buddy
tries to find a way to break the spell, while both of them try to
stop the sorcerer. Their harrowing experiences in trying to thwart
the plans of such a powerful adversary bring them even closer
together, and the male friend finds himself starting to fall for,
and becomes protective of, his transformed buddy, after she's
crossed the gender divide and starts to really look hot (once an
actress replaces the original male actor).
4.) A proper film version of Thorne Smith's TURNABOUT, done as a
fairly faithful, droll, risque early-1930s period piece. The
original novel was pretty funny, unlike the 1940 film and the
various films that later borrowed the premise.
5.) A sexy, raunchy, "anything goes" fantasy-comedy involving a
husband and wife, a genie lamp, and some ill-thought-out, frivolous
wishes... one of which (the central factor in the plot) involves
the wife wanting to swap genders, sizes and roles with her
unwitting husband (but not an exact TURNABOUT/FREAKY FRIDAY style
bodyswap)... which results in a terrific, extended mutual-tf
sequence, combining the best elements of the restaurant gender tf
in DR. JEKYLL & MS. HYDE ('95) and the initial father-son bodyswap
sequence in VICE VERSA ('88). Rather than the usual, preachy "Gee,
I didn't realize how hard it was being a man/woman... I've learned
my lesson!" stuff (other than some initial awkwardness), this would
then veer off into wild, unexpected directions.
6.) A film adaptation of Rudy Rucker's novel, MASTER OF SPACE AND
TIME ('84), which very nearly happened a decade ago (it was to have
been written by Daniel Clowes (GHOST WORLD) and directed by Michel
Gondry (ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, THE GREEN HORNET).
In the story, the main character ultimately decides to use the
miraculous, science-based "magic" power to change himself into a
"Marilyn Monroe" type, with a killer body and a breathy voice (but
with his male personality and memories intact), to satisfy a
lifelong, idle curiosity of what it'd be like (rather than as a way
to solve some sort of troubling gender dysphoria).
With all of these, I'd try to balance what I'd personally like to
see on the screen (in terms of tg-tf stuff), without completely
alienating a general audience... that is to say, straight-ahead
entertainment (thrills and/or intentional laughs), good stories,
engaging characters, no PC "message film" preaching, the
transformed "new women" (and in certain cases, "new men") have to
look stunning, tg-tf "victims" (the male ones, at least) have to be
initially unwilling (or are tricked), and the fetishistic stuff
done with a light enough touch that it doesn't start to awkwardly
resemble porn. I have a theory that this sort of material could be
a lot more accessible to a mainstream audience than it has been in
the past, if the preceding ground rules were followed, whatever the
specific plot.

Ok, I have one. It's a superhero film or series where an average
guy gains a powerful relic that transforms him into a woman with
superpowers. So naturally he uses it to fight crime. One twist is
that his arch nemesis has the same scenario (normal man turns into
a woman with superpowers) though his day job is that he's a news
reporter who writes about what happened while he's a villainess.

Adult TV Spy show, like Game of Thrones, (But set in an alternative
1960s). A war between scientists, like James Bond but focussing on
Q, to establish global dominance, the story would spend half the
first season setting up a British super scientist hero (Think Iron
man but no suit) that has a team and comes up with fantastic ways
to overcome impossible situations (think McGuyver). As well as
setting up all the players in the fight for power, including a
frustrated Russian team of scientists. The Americans and the
Chinease. The second half would see him forcefully swapped, body
and skills, with a Russian hooker who has agreed to take his place.
The second season would then focus on the same groups while also
focussing on the heroes new life as he tries to escape his fate.
The whole first Season will have a second swap as the Chinease
government capture the hero and swap him with a Chinease scientist
(also a woman) and attempt to unlock the knowledge stolen by the
Russians.
