No, in the context of finding yourself in a body that's not previously yours, it's valid to talk about the implications of ICE, INS, DHS and so on will have on you personally as per the topic heading and why the illegal immigrant route isn't advisable as you could end up on their radar.

Talking about US and foreign immigration/domestic policy generally, now that's widening the scope too far and hence in effect going off topic.

Best case scenario would be you transform into a person that already exists and somehow they are transformed into you and you can "pretend" to be them if you can meet them while they are you. Hopefully, the person would be a law abiding citizen.

More potentially interesting plots for a story if it's someone new, though. Especially with the world of today with computers cross-referencing everything and omni-present surveillance.

Not a swap scenario but the Philip K Dick novel "Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said" is an interesting look at someone going from being a famous TV celebrity into an almost same world except here, they don't exist. Being that it's also a police state, it does make things tricky for them.

If you get swept up in any kind of police action, if you can't confirm your identity, it doesn't matter if it's immigration related or not - you're potentially in a lot of trouble. Deportation isn't the only thing you have to worry about with law enforcement.

well, I am thinking more in the term of make believe amnesia that being discussed here. Surely if you look like a white girl & speak the correct accent it would be more easy to persuade the officers to let you have some sort of temporary identity until the day when you "recover" from the amnesia.

Amnesia like you see in the movies and TV isn't really like that and more often than not would make the police more suspicious than anything else.

I am sure if you try hard enough you can find a way to enter the system & database whether through the service of professional hacker, bribing government official or whatnot.

The problem is that if you don't have the necessary connection beforehand it would be impossible to do this immediately. So to buy time, you have to still be yourself for a moment.

Assuming that you still have the same thumbprint or DNA (though I am sure your DNA will be changed if you change sex), just pretend that you have underwent sex change operation.

What's so bad about experiment? Don't you want to know what happened to you, assuming the cause is mysterious? and, assuming that you are not happy with the change, don't you want to change back? the government, with its vast resources, is your best bet to return to normalcy...
