@Swapgirl - I was inspired to create a cap using your Chrono Corps
universe setting! Dunno if I fit all the rules, but it was a lot of
fun!
You can check it out here: http://shiftingseductionsrebirth.blogspot.com/2016/07/the-present-past.html

Having read this,
http://www.metamorphose.org/entry/show.htp?rowid=9437&se0=entry&se1=show
it reminds me of:
The Trancers movie series
and:
the Time Service of Robert Silverberg novels.
Throw in some Lightning by Dean R Koontz
I'm sure there's more things I've read that this is like.
Having read the very detailed entry cj put up, this is very
detailed and would be a perfect candidate for a webcomic if done
right.

Those details came from Swapgirl and her rules page for the
universe... but thanks for the kind nod.

Oh, I know.
You all should consider doing this as a webcomic as a
metamorphose.org collective group project. Even if it never happens
because of time, $ or whatever, the mere act of just planning out
how it would be done is a lot of fun and if it were to ever be
possible to happen, the plans would be right there.
For starters, it would get around the obvious limitations of using
pre-existing photographs and pictures and the like.
I'll even kickstart things (ha). I might know a thing or two about
webcomics after all. Start by looking for webcomics that are
somewhere in this ballpark. By that, I mean space travel ones, time
travel ones, possession ones etc etc, post the links here for them
and start mining for ideas.

Glad to see everyone likes the universe. :)
CJ:
Thanks for adding my rules to the database. Everything looks good.
:)
Silhouette:
Nice work, and nice caption. I'm glad to see someone take up my
universe already. :) Looks like you followed all the rules. Nice to
see someone using them to tell a good story. :)
Also, I keep meaning to ask you about your caption blog; I wasn't
sure was yours. Now I know. :) I remember seeing your blog when you
posted those GIFs a few weeks ago.
Neat idea, btw, providing GIFs for other captioners to use. It's a
nice service to the community. :)
Air Gear:
I actually had Trancers in mind as I was developing the Chrono
Corps universe, though I forgot to acknowledge it when I was
writing out the rules. Thanks for bringing it up. :)
I'm not familiar with the other works you mentioned.
I don't have the right set of talents to make a webcomic, but I'd
love to see someone else do so. :)

If you mod your rules page (RE: Trancers), let me know and I'll
adjust the copy and entries here for you.

Now even though I don't know you from Adam (or Eve), I'm going to
disagree with you about not having the right set of talents to
manage a webcomic. Anyway, I'm not suggesting we make one, I'm
suggest the step before which is just planning one in this thread
as a fun exercise. It's really more of a management issue than
anything else. I'll start and then you'll see how easy it is (just
the hypothetical planning that is).
The rate limiting steps are finding an artist and financing, that's
where things often stumble but we're not doing that here today
(maybe later). Now before we continue, I'd like to recommend you
have a look at these two webcomics.
http://www.exiern.com/2005/09/06/so-far/
extra.exiern.com/comic/dark-reflections-00/
Now I've always been very honest that I'm here first and foremost
to shill for these two comics but that's not why I'm posting them
here today. My nominal boss doesn't draw either of these but he
does the juggling act of keeping them running and getting the
artists as well as financing them.
Also, if you haven't come across them before, the main characters
are in a sense going through the same thing you are with their
lives to a point (though one of the leads is undergoing the exact
reverse). So I thought you might also find the subject matter
interesting too (I could be wrong, though. Happens a lot.)
Point is, by reading the comments and announcements, you can get an
idea of the logistics and evolution of these sorts of things
(they've both been running a long time, combined it's close to 20
years now - slightly over and slightly under 10 years each).
Back to the topic at hand. Pretend we've got an artist and $. We're
just doing a draft proposal here (a pitch if you like) Before even
planning a story, just set up the webcomic universe parameters.
Shouldn't be more than a few paragraphs. I'll start if you like to
kick things off. I'm going to use what are probably some different
rules from your caption universe if that's OK?

@Swapgirl
Thanks! And thank you for making an interesting universe to stage a
story in!
I've unfortunately yet to see anyone use my GIFs for their
captions, but I'm glad you appreciate them! I also have trouble
finding good material to use for them, so if you have sightings for
either, lemme' know! =D You can always reach me through my blog.

I've read Exiern off and on for years. I'm terrible at keeping up
with webcomics, so I haven't read every page of it, but I do enjoy
it when I do. It's one of my favorite webcomics. :)
And go ahead, Air Gear. I'm curious to see where you're going with
this. I feel like I'm in a little over my head in this discussion;
I just write stuff, lol. But I'm interested in seeing what you're
thinking. And sure, different rules are fine.

Well, it's also just writing (we're not actually making any pages).
It'll be fun, I promise. I have a few things to do, a write up on
the Belgian Lalola I keep promising at some point too but I'll get
right on what I'm getting at, really soon and post it here.

In case anyone's interested, I've just started a new series, "A
Tropical Triangle". It's an Exchange Island series; it's lighter
and fluffier in tone than my previous series, "Long Live the
Queen", but I think it's still entertaining.
If you're interested, you can check it out here

Have you ever made any f2f captions? If so, where can I make
requests?
|
From: guest (guest1)
, 93 months, post #33 |
and if you decide to quit or disappear for extended periods be in
touch with your supporters, let them know...some disappear for
months leaving their supporters wondering what happened...just a
common courtesy to help build and maintain a solid following...

dawg: I haven't made and F2F captions, though I have a couple of
ideas. I'm also not taking requests, at least for now. Sorry!
guest1: I will definitely try to let people know if I'm going to
take a break from captioning. I'm a worrier, so I always worry when
people with a consistent internet presence suddenly vanish. I
wouldn't want to make my readers worry, so I'll try not to
disappear without warning.

I've just launched my latest series, The Stepford Transformation;
I'll be posting two caps every other day over the next month. It's
a Master PC story that, as the title suggests, is loosely based on
The Stepford Wives. It's a plot-heavy pseudo-psychological
thriller, and I think it's pretty fun.
It starts here
, if anyone's interested.

Just started a new Halloween-themed series, if anyone's interested.
It's a magic remote adventure in which a group of friends become
trapped in a slasher movie. Caution, though: since it's about a
slasher movie, it gets pretty violent. There's nothing too graphic,
but several characters do die.
You can find it here
.
Also, if anyone's interested, I just finished up another entry in
my Chrono Corps universe, in which a time traveller spends a few
years in Audrey Heburn's body. That one starts here
.

I think a magic remote, slasher movie mix is an amazing idea! In
fact, as a slasher movie fan, I'm jealous I hadn't thought of doing
something along those lines first! I can't wait to see how this
story pans out! Well, it's a slasher movie...so I think I can
guess...but they're always so much fun along the way!
Thanks for all you do and thanks for letting us know! =D

I've launched a lengthy new series, Subject Twenty-Four; it's a
classic story of a couple who've been kidnapped and body-swapped by
a mad scientist, with a revenge thriller twist. I'll be rolling it
out over the next couple of months. You can find the first chapter
here, if you're interested:

"I think a magic remote, slasher movie mix is an amazing idea!"
Kind of been done up to a point at least in the Wes Craven movie
"Shocker" where there's at least one sequence which kind of has
that happening for a while, at least.

If anyone's interested, I've started a new series, Breaking News.
It's a Magic Remote story with a twist: the protagonist
accidentally uses the Magic Remote to become a TV news reporter in
the real world.
