Well played, Air Gear. Well played. (slowly raises eyebrow)
I think I remember marquises from the long distant past doing
things with certain other movies but my google-fu is not up to
snuff right now. I do remember some stories about people
"vandalizing" marquises by switching letters around. I think
somewhere in or near Palm Springs "Time After Time" became "F*ck
After F*ck". Crude but people appreciated it more than the theater
owners did, I'm sure.
Also, let's face it: everyone knows Nancy Drew is a total slut. Not
that that's a bad thing but, seriously, use some birth-control if
you're gonna be like that. I'm not judging.
sorry <:-[

read like this.

Official website, so we're good for rights.
cj, about the future, how's your time looking to look at something
I occasionally ask you to look at. Definitely want your opinion on
it one day. We have the general 'as a comic generally POV'
underway. As this site's such a good source of traffic, though
we're wondering if there's any optimization we can do based on
feedback ...

Can we please keep this thread on topic.
These posts about marquee mixups have nothing to do with the
transformation community.

Not true. The transformation of Brad Pitt into someone who totally
incapable of murdering the English language in Snatch is a wonder
to behold.

Ok hopefully this thread stays on topic this time.
First the movie has been renamed (Re)Assignment. It is not the best
name but I guess it was an upgrade to the other one.
Second if you live in or near Toronto you can watch it next month
at the Toronto movie festival.
Plus I saw at a German film festival Michelle Rodriguez won best
actress for the movie which is a good sign.

Ok I just went on Twitter and looked up this film. A lot of the
Trans community is saying this film is disgusting and never should
of been made. They plan on boycotting the film. I don't see the
problem with it. It's a fantasy/sci fi movie. I don't think people
boycotted Face/Off when it came out.

"Welcome to progressive/PC hypocrisy."
Okay, guest # 93 is talking abut something on TWITTER. Hir post may
as well have read "I was listening to a bunch of people shouting at
each other across a busy intersection and it seemed like some of
them were angry about something."
That said so here some issues with the movie:
A medical procedure which many trans people think ought to treated
the same way we treat the correction of a cleft palate is
(apparently) depicted as a kind of torture.
The details of gender reassignment procedures are (by the reports
of some who have seen the movie and/or read the script) absurdly
misrepresented and portrayed as an act of violence.
A ciswoman was hired to play a transwoman.
Why these are triggers for trans-folk, and why the "its only a
movie: argument doesn't win:
"Sex change surgery", and the associated gender confirming medical
interventions that trans people may seek, are expensive, difficult
to find, and controversial. For transfolk, any shock/horror
depiction of GRS is discouraging.
As far as I have seen, no transperson is asking for the film to be
banned. No transperson is asking for the rights of free speech and
creative expression of those who wrote, directed, and appeared in
the film to be abridged. Some transpeople are exercising their
right to speak by protesting what they see as a defamatory and
regressive representation of transpeople and the medical
professionals who serve the trans population.
Cis actors playing trans characters is tricky. It isn't quite the
same thing as blackface, but it is a lost opportunity for trans
actors. Trans actors playing trans characters -- it is hoped --
helps to normalize the fact of being trans. How it would have
worked in this movie, is an interesting question,
The plot actually flips the TG narrative. Pre-op, the characters is
congruent. Post-op the character could (presumably) be described as
dysphoric. Except for the physical aspects of character I am not
are that putting a trans actor in that role makes a lot of sense
IIRC, while some transfolks rolled their eyes, "The Skin I live In"
did't excite the any kind of outrage. Part of that is that
Almodovar has been pretty sympathetic to trans characters in
previous movies. Part of it was that the script was pretty good and
the portrayal of the transformation was -- while not realistic --
carried of with some verisimilitude and just enough
science-fictional magic-technology to plaster over the larger gaps
in credibility.
Also, the earlier film came out before twitter was treated as the
same thing as journalism.
But, since stuff written by strangers on the internet seems to
matter; as a politically progressive transperson, and speaking for
all other politically progressive transpeople, I hear-by officially
give you permission to watch and -- if it is to your taste -- enjoy
(Re)Assignment.

Since the movie's IMDB page

reflect such.

Well, how about that. We talk about a different title and it gets
one.
This one actually is better (I'm very reluctant to believe
'revenger' is a word, for starters).

I'm pretty true this film won't contain any form of metamorphose, I
would rather see the post locked. Every time it gets a new comment
makes me annoyed at how it turned out. Now can we focus on films
with actual transformations in, rather then surgical body horror?
|
From: guest
, 93 months, post #99 |
I'd say that any kind of physical change or transformation is a
metamorphosis. Horror isn't ruled out. Just MHO
And Thank you, Air Gear! It always bugs ME when people can't get
the difference between revenge and avenge. Just my grammar not-see
acting up.

The purpose of this Message Board is discuss transformation content
or topics AND topics or content that would be of interest
to the transformation community.
Since this movie deals with what could be defined as a forced
gender change, it is of interest to several members of our
community.
As horribly insulting or even damaging to the transgender and
medical communities as it sounds to be, it is still qualified for
inclusion as a topic for discussion here.
