Fictional Worlds and Universes in TF and TG media
This entry will be a list and archive of often explored worlds and universes found in transformation and gender-bending independent fiction. It can include origins, rules, and permission details / contacts.
From: cj , 105 months, post #41
You know... I do remember a "change day" or something similarly titled, by Cleo Kraft from way way back. Something about two young girls tricking the swapping device operator into taking the place of the one of them on the swap or return swap... I think it was the return swap. Interesting, but short story IIRC.

I think I have it on one of my backup drives... somewhere.

Anyhow, are the "Change Day" stories related to that one?

About bodyhopper-verse, I've found this thread stating that Aardvark were the creator:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Body-Hopper_Master/conversations/topics/949

Like is said there, Toby were recognized as one of the greatest contributors to this universe. So, wouldn't it be nice to cite it in the tg-verses pages? With links to most popular stories of each genre?

From: cj , 105 months, post #43
Thanks for the link to that thread.

Okay, so I don't have to re-read that thread later, I'm going to drop a few notes here:
Universe created by Aardvark, original story believed to be either "Body-supplied" or maybe even one rather unimaginatively called "The Body-Hoppers" and possibly written for Photo-Fakir. Yahoo Body-hopper fiction group run by Toby.

Feel free to correct me if my notes are incorrect. I'll leave this post here and re-visit this thread after the weekend before I commit the info the the appropriate entries.

Thanks barackobrahma.

From: barackobrahma , 105 months, post #44
@cj
You're welcome! =]

But, AFAIK, PhotoFakir is both a deceased yahoo group and writer/author/groupowner. Ie... Aardvark fist posted on PhotoFakir's group, called PhotoFakir, and Toby was just the guy that best explored this universe, recalling Aardvark words: "On a side note, I just have to say; I am INCREDIBLY impressed with your work Toby. Really great reads you have here."

But, as I was re-reading this whole thread, seems like ToxicAllie did a good job bringing rules to the Bodyhopper-verse (like, bodyhopping isnt bodystealing/bodyjumping, like some authors do). And, probably, she's the first one to do that, since none original work of Aardvark can be found to context that.

Maybe Aardvark could appear again and tell us more. But Im afraid that wont happen.

From: cj , 105 months, post #45
It might. You never know.

One of the other reasons that I'm waiting til the end of the weekend... figuring out how to credit Aardvark and ToxicAllie both... same entry or separate... I'm thinking same at the moment... but we'll see Monday or Tuesday.

From: barackobrahma , 105 months, post #46
Take your time! As far as I can see, you are doing a good job... no need to pressure! =]

I also probably wont appear for a few days, since I plan wasting my liver with alcohol during them. Hahahaha

I came across another tg-verse, I think... a bit unexplored, probably.
"Body Shifters": BodyShifters and BodyShifters 2 .
What do you think? Deserve its own category, or can it be classified under some umbrella definition?

From: cj , 105 months, post #47
Thanks!

I'll take a read... but they may actually be something to add.

I promised to research about less well-known (but equally, or even more developed universes). Here's a list with three of them:

THE GENDERWAVE
Created by: BobH
First Appeared: GENDERWAVE: FIRST REPORTS

Description
From the first story:
It started on June 21st - the summer solstice - shortly after noon local time. That was when the shimmering wall appeared along a line stretching from the top of the world down through the middle of the Bering Strait all the way to the middle of Antarctica. Running from one pole to the other and stretching from the top of the atmosphere to the ocean bottom and through the deepest caverns known to man, it seemed impossibly huge yet was only a few millimeters thick. To the naked eye it looked like heat haze. No sooner had it appeared than it spawned a second, identical wall. The first remained where it was, but the second broke away from it, anchored to the poles as it traversed the Earth westwards, rewriting the world as it went.
When the moving wall touched a human being, they would become instantly transformed into the opposite gender. At last, twenty four hours after it started out, the moving wall of energy met again with the standing wall it had left behind. As the two touched so there was a quick burst of light which flashed around the planet in an instant, and then both were gone. They vanished without trace, showing no sign they had ever existed, but rewriting the reality to fit the changed population, changing everything but the victims memories.

Rules
-The G-wave took twenty four hours to circle the globe, which meant it struck pretty much everywhere around the middle of the day their local time. It first appeared on June 21st, 2004, at around noon local time, running between the poles along a line through the Bering Strait. Since the G-wave sprang into being just east of the line, this means it actually hit everywhere on the *22nd*
-Names get instantly changed to match the new sex. Surnames also change (you take your mothers instead of your father, in case theyre still alive).
-Once it touches the first countries (New Zealand, Australia), the reports get out and there are major reactions across the world.
-The transformation works just once. If you go through the wall again, it wont affect you.
-The dead dont get affected unless theyre parents and are survived by a spouse.
-Unborn babies are transferred from the mother to the father. Where a guy had impregnated several different women, those other babies ended up being carried either by another male the former mother had slept with or by someone who had slept around but never gotten anyone pregnant.

A few additional rules as written by the author himself:
1) No one knows what caused the genderwave. By all means have your characters speculate on what caused it - God, aliens, magic, mad scientists, whatever - but there's no direct evidence for any of these. The cause remains a mystery. This is why the categories for this story include both 'sci-fi' and 'magical transformations'.
2) If you want to see where the Genderwave was at a given time use a globe. The line of the supporting bracket doubles for the wave just fine. Also, of course, if the wave took 24 hours to circle the world then the slice of the planet between each pair of lines of longitude on your globe shows the chunk of the Earth it passed over in any given hour. The wave would have hit wherever you're starting from just after noon. Count the lines heading east to see where it's been, west to see where it's going. Yeah, I know this is only a 'rule of thumb' that time zones don't accord exactly with lines of longitude. Any fine tuning you want to do you'll need a time-zone map for. And since the genderwave sweeps across areas at noon local time, that means it's stationary relative to the sun, of course, for what that's worth.
From my point of view, the main attraction of this particular scenario is that thanks to global communication, much of the world knows what's coming and so has time to react before they're overwhelmed by it, and those reactions would probably vary vastly. What would it *feel* like, knowing the entire world was changing, that no one could do anything to stop it, and time was counting down to the moment you and everyone you know is changed forever?
3) Transformation was instantaneous, but it always happened to people where they stood. No one suddenly found themselves somewhere else. Nor did they suddenly find themselves married to someone else. The genderwave kept them in the same place there, too.
4) The naming thing, with family names descending along what had been the matrilineal line, is probably going to be the most difficult thing to keep straight, but the logic of the set-up kinda falls apart without it. This means it's easier to use fictional characters rather than real people unless you want to put in the research. For instance, Bill Clinton would not become Mrs Rodham unless Hillary's mother and her mother's mother are dead (I haven't researched them - this is just an example off the top of my head). Assuming Hillary's maternal Grandmother is her oldest matrilineal relative, and assuming her maiden name was Jones, then Bill and Hillary would now be Mr and Mrs Jones. Like I say, fictional characters are easier.
5) The astonauts are mine, so please don't use them beyond maybe mentioning them in passing. They were the *only* ones unaffected by the genderwave. There were *no* other exceptions. This particular universe arose out of me wanting to write a story where it's not the protagonist who undergoes transformation but everyone else in the world. I still intend to write that story one day. Anything else introduced in this story is up for grabs, however. If, for instance, you want to tell the story of those LA street gangs I mentioned in passing, or the new agers, or whoever, please feel free.

THE REVERSION
Created by: Planet
First Appeared: THE REVERSION PART I

Description
On an indeterminate date, the governments of the world receive anonymous letter threatening them with a technological attack at 10:40 EDT that will change everyones ages.
To prove theyre telling the truth, the terrorists have already radiated a small island in the Bahamas. Sure enough, the islanders ages shift, and they dub the event as The Reversion.
The worlds leaders warn their citizens about whats to happen a few hours earlier, and everyone prepares for it differently.

Permissions
Open for new stories: Yes
Permission required: No
Permissions contact: Not Applicable
Questions contact: theplanetoftheap@gmail.com (got that from the authors site, and I guess its available)

Rules
Taken directly from the first story:
-The only living beings affected by the change are humans. Animals and plants remain unaffected.
-Individuals between the ages of 0 and 5 also remain unchanged, but their health usually improves.
-Children between the ages of 5 and 15 will mature into 25-year-old adults.
-People older than 15 will regress into 10 year olds.
-Unborn babies will migrate into the body of a newly matured female, sometimes at random, but mostly into a family relation.
-The changes are mostly physical, but there are some mental ones (tastes, knowledge and skills to match the new ages).
-Reality itself warps to adapt the world to the changed people (transfer of roles).
-Family relations also change (new couples are formed, former parents become their offspring children, etc.)
-The changes have made everyone healthier 8and more attractive).
-Not everyone gets affected at the same moment. Some change as soon as the Reversion hit, while others take up to 10 minutes.
-The transformation itself lasts about 3 minutes in being completed (and feels both strange and pleasant)
-15 minutes after the Reversion hits, peoples belongings transform to match their new roles.

CHANGEDAY
Created by: BobH
First Appeared: CHANGEDAY: FIVE YEARS

Description
From the first story:
Theres a ChangeDay every month. Its a global event where everyone on the planet has their genre reversed. On the next ChangeDay, theyll revert back, and so the cycle goes on, people having to lead two different lives from now on.

Permissions
Open for new stories: Yes
Permission required: No

Questions contact: unknown

Rules
-The months were people are on their birth genre are called the alpha phase, while the others are the beta phase.
-Theres a group of people, the Rejectionists, who rejected the transformations of Changeday and who insist on continuing in her birth-gender, taking hormones and dressing as usual.
-While pregnant, a woman will skip ChangeDay, then cause a phase shift.
-Theres some degree of mental change to go with the physical transformation (different tastes, and such).
-They dont only switch gender but their genes also shuffle, with traits emerging from family gene pools that they hadn't previously exhibited.
-Some people who had suffered physical infirmity before were now whole again with the blind seeing, the deaf hearing, and the lame walking tall.

A few additional rules as written by the author himself:

1) Though everyone has a theory about the cause of Changeday - God, aliens, natural phenomena, etc -the cause remains unknown. It should stay that way. If there ever is an explanation given, that will be my story to tell.
2) The first Changeday occurred on the first Monday in June. No exact date or year should be given.
3) Changeday is an event that recurs on a Monday every four weeks around the world *simultaneously*. In the UK it happens at 7pm when we're on Summer Time, 6pm on Winter Time. When setting a story elsewhere please check a time-zone map to determine the equivalent time in that location.
4) Please name your story thus - 'Changeday: (insert your title here)'.

I probably missed a couple of details, but it's something to work with!

Thank you very much for that research guest! I'll try to get those added before the end of the week.

From: Allie , 105 months, post #50
In regards to the original creator(s) of Body Hoppers, how I recall the history is as follows (this is also included in an email to CJ)

Photofakir began the stoy-verse with captions featuring a man's face (presumably his own) Photoshoped on to a woman's body, but only over the face, leaving the hair of the woman visible. The captions that accompanied the images made reference to the masculine face in ways such as; "Camera sees my real face" and taunting the people around saying, "If they only could see what the camera sees."

In the summer of 2007 Photofakir had a site up where he posted these images and captions, though he began to remove them slowly over time.

Aardvark apparently enjoyed the idea so much, she (as I understand peope referred to Aardvark as) began writing the stories. I never had seen Aardvark's writings on FictionMania, so tracking them down these days would be damn near impossible. The rules I (re)established were all based off of what I had read from her stories, and the other early Hopper stories that were found on FM, prior to a large number of various writings being removed from the site. I only tweaked them to accommodate female Hoppers (which had grown in popularity due to a number of F2F Hopper caps on the Possession Obsession groups, done by talented individuals). Also, an update to technology was added just to keep up with the times.

As for Toby's involvment: Toby Redone (as his handle was then) played a large role in the reintroduction of Body Hoppers to a growing community. His captions and stories are still some of the most memorable ones for me and others, and he can be credited to have made many people fans. I would love nothing more than to see him get his due credit. :)

Great, I was almost to Body Hoppers last night, so glad I stopped when I did. This is good information, Allie. Thanks. :-)

Bill Hart's Spell's "R"Us universe rules.

SYNOPSIS:

Spells 'R Us is a small shop located in the mall and run by an old man who more often than not wears what looks like a bathrobe. In the shop, magical spells and/or items may be purchased. It is a universe, where, quite obviously, magic works. However, few people believe in magic, which in turn leads to careless and sloppy spellcasting. And when you add in the shopkeeper's somewhat warped sense of humor, just about anything can and does happen. Simply, this universe can be described as: "What you see, ain't necessarily (or usually) what you get." It is also a universe which is easily carved into sub-universes. The "Animal Crackers" and "People Crackers" stories by Michael Rich spring to mind. Each originate at the Spells 'R Us shop, but then each set of crackers takes on its own independence.

GUIDELINES:

1. The stories should revolve about the store in the mall "Spells 'R Us" and/or the wizard(s) running it.

2. Since the universe, is a spin-off of my "Strangeness at the Frat House" story, don't mess with the characters in it. They may appear in your stories, but nothing permanent may be done to them. It's my job to mess those characters up.

3. Any possible transformation is acceptable.

4. With the exception of item 2, just about anything is fair game. The only limiting factor is the limit of your imagination.

Thank you Guest and Mr Ram.

From: cj , 102 months, post #55
Okay. I believe that I'm all caught up now. Just updated the SRU entry and added three more universes that "guest" had suggested, but not yet submitted.

If you guys and gals can think of any more that should be included, or if I missed one, please let me know.

Thanks!

From: cj , 102 months, post #56
Ugh... I missed an entire post! Sorry guest (post 52). I'll try to get those researched and added as soon as I can squeeze the time for it.

From: cj , 102 months, post #57
There.

Now I'm all caught up!

The entries are in place, please feel free to contribute to the description of these wonderful universes and populate with the correct rules for each. Bonus if you can add the details of the first story and/or date first "published".

Also, feel free to add any universes that we may have missed or omitted.

Thanks!

From: cj , 101 months, post #58
And now I find: http://transform.to/~tsa-faq/TSA_FAQ_Section_five.html

With several more Universes... I don't remember reading any stories in these universes - before I dive in to check out how popular they have been / are... is there anyone here who has read stories set in these universes that can give more detail - as in, is the universe well-known enough... should it be included?

Well, the Universes haven't gotten much attention for awhile, and I see that we are still missing some details on several universes.

I just shot a few emails out, that hopefully don't get spam-filtered, to some authors that I found email addy's for. Hopefully they will stop by and lend a hand.

But if anyone else can help fill in missing details, please feel free to do so. Also, if anyone of you know how prolific those universes listed in post 58 are, that would be helpful too.

Thanks!

From: guest (Tiz) , 97 months, post #60
I believe that actually if memory serves me correctly that the Madam of Zulo first originated from someone who found it on the bottom of a Kentucky fried chicken bucket.
