Drop Dead Diva
Female | |
Premiering July 12 on Lifetime, this series focuses on a model wanna-be named Deb who gets killed in a car crash, goes to heaven, but doesn't want to be there, so she goes back to earth in the body of a physically unattractive but smart lawyer named Jane Bingham. |

This show had my attention until I realized the model will have
access to the lawyer's skills and intellect, which is contrivance
in its worst form. Before long this will turn into just another
courtroom dramedy and the original swap will be a passing thought.
They should have tossed the model into the deep end on her own. She
would have had to find a new profession and would have kept the
show going for at least a couple seasons. Though I'm basing my
opinion solely on the preview, I believe this will get real old
after about five episodes and it's a shame. I hope I'm wrong.

Well, it should deliver ratings because Liza, Delta and Paula are
going to be guest stars on certain episodes.

Ipkiss, I belive you are right. It reminds me of 'Ely Stone',
another courtroom dramedy where the gimmick was he saw visions.
Yawn.
And forgive my ignorance, but who are Liza, Delta, and Paula?

Liza Minnelli, Delta Burke, and Paula Abdul.

This is meant to be a limited run series, only thirteen episodes.
So don't worry too much about it getting stale because it's not
going to be around for long.

I'm of two minds about a new inhabitant of a body getting the
skills or memories of the original inhabitant. It solves a lot of
problems, but, yes, it can eliminate much of the fun. I think that
with good writing and with more emphasis placed on how the new self
adapts to the new identity, and less on how the new self functions
at the old self's job (probably very well), that sort of thing can
work fairly well.

Seems a little unfair to call the new body unattractive, I thought
she was pretty damn cute. Who decided that only women of a certain
size are pretty? But yeah, seems like a good idea pulled off in a
tired way.

I was about to say that same thing "guest". I think that woman IS
pretty darn cute. "Deb" coulda been placed in a lot of other
actually unattractive bodies, and that actress' is not one of them.

Yeah, I'll ditto that.

That was the perfect body for Deb to end up with anyway. Because
when she was a model she didn't use her brain at all. All she cared
about was fashion.

There's ugly, and there's Hollywood Ugly... they don't have much
connection.

Hollywood view of the world generally is through hollwood glass
darkly. For example their view of Middle class midwest amercians. I
had no idea we behaved like hollywood loonies.

I just saw it. Not bad, has some good moments & some bad & preachy
ones. an intersting little side light thee actress that plays her
original beautiful self Deb Brooke D'Orsay played the
girlfriend/head cheerleader in Its a Boy Girl Thing

I think it would of been better if they would of had a girl who was
all rough and tough turn into a model. Anywho thank god their is a
show like this anyway

Brooke D'Orsay also starred in the trailer for the fake TG movie
"Switched" in which a guy and girl switch bodies.

this is just not a show I'm gonna like.. I just know it, it DOES
sound gimicy like eli (which surprisingly is still on. wth?!) and I
yawned after i heard delta... were on too. BUT the worse part is
she's gonna have the lawyer skills?! where's the conflict now? If
we bypass the fact vanity issue, I assume the main idea of the show
is that she is being taught to use her brain instead of her...
body. Then shouldn't she struggle with learning stuff herself?!
Using your brain, or intellect is not given so why is this girl
just handed out stuff and still being asked to swap or be
transformed into this girl?
Quite lame, I wouldn't even watch this if it was a m2f. I give it a
half season to a year

anyone know where I can download the 1st episode?

Freeballer, it's a limited run series. It's only going to be around
for 13 episodes. You make some great arguments but I think the main
conflict is going to be her reacting to her fiance and trying to
win him back in the new body.
