Description
In Greek mythology, Medusa was one of the Gorgons. She was so ugly
that anyone looking directly at her would turn to stone. There are
variations in the legend. One legend has that Medusa was defeated
when Perseus made her look at her own reflection, turning her to
stone; another states Perseus cut her head off while watching her
reflection, which could not harm him. One legend has it that Medusa
was a woman of great beauty, but when a suitor told her she was
more beautiful that the goddess Diana, Diana herself turned the
woman's hair to serpents and made her petrifyingly ugly.
