Description
In this remake of the 1975 classic, the women in the idyllic town
of Stepford are actually robots.
Well, they're supposed to be robots. At least that's what they were
in the original version of the film, I think, even though I never
saw it. But in this rather weakly put-together film, there is never
any definite confirmation. In fact, there is conflict between
whether the women are robots, or just humans with their bodies
redesigned and their brains reprogrammed with nanochips. If they
are humans, then how is one wife able to spit out a wad of money
like a bank machine? And if they are robots, then in the end how do
they undergo the process of "Restoring Original Personality", as
the whiny computer voice says?
The director's intention becomes more obvious in the DVD, where the
deleted scenes show obvious robotic activity (although this doesn't
answer the questions of the previous paragraph). In fact, quite a
few scenes were cut out. I can sort of see why: if the scenes were
left in, the movie would be dorky. Now that the scenes are omitted,
though, the movie is just vague and difficult to understand.
I'll try to post a picture of Bette Midler-bot from the deleted
scenes.

Bobbie Markowitz (Bette Midler), now turned into a robot, displays
her sexual functions "Foreplay", "Intercourse", "Orgasm" and
"Afterglow". Here, she is displaying "Afterglow", in which she
opens up her torso to display cans of chilled beer which she would
offer to her master. Did I mention that this was a stupid movie?
