Motoko literally transforms into one of the "Hi-fu-mi" - tomboyish Hibiki, mature and feminine Fujiko, or childish Mikiri - when stressed or in a dangerous situation. It's not just her personality that changes, though...
<spoiler>When Motoko becomes one of her alters, her hairstyle and facial features also change subtly (each is drawn with a distinct look, and on the color covers of each volume the alters even have different hair colors!) In addition, Motoko's body changes slightly to complement each personality's fighting skills, like Hibiki's karate training or Fujiko's proficiency with weapons. The most dramatic change is when Motoko or another alter transforms into judo expert Mikiri; her bust expands and often rips open whatever bra or bikini top she might be wearing. </spoiler>
