We all know the story. Chucky was a serial killer who transferred his soul into a doll, to escape death, then spent at least five movies trying to get back into a human body. Well, Chucky has gotten quite a bit better at his job lately. Getting a human body doesn't seem to be a big deal to him anymore, and he seems to just prefer the doll form. He can also exist in multiple bodies. It's not clear if the multiples are copies, or if they're all Chucky. I think the viewer is meant to believe the latter is true.
In the last movie, "Curse of Chucky", he might have jumped into a female body, but there is some ambiguity. In this new movie, though it tries harder to be mysterious we definitely see Chucky in a woman's body.
