I'm creating this thread as a place where anyone can post
suggestions that they think would improve the site.
Remember that our fearless leader / gracious host does have a real
life away, and I'm sure is quite busy. In other words,
BE PATIENT!!!
I should also mention that if your suggestion is deemed to be lame,
complicated, too time-consuming, or just plain impossible - it may
simply be discounted as such... or deemed as something that will
need to wait.
:-)

Message Board
Time / Date stamp
It would be nice to know what YEAR posts were posted.
Searching the Message Board posts
Maybe placing the search box in roughly the same place as the entry
search - or at the top of the page instead of the bottom. Or
perhaps even radio buttons to change the search from "Entries" to
"Message Board Posts".
Multiple Page Posts
For message threads that have multiple pages... it would be nice to
have the page selection at both the top AND bottom of the page. - This feature already exists.
Spoiler Tags
It would be nice to keep the paragraph breaks from being removed
when they fall between the spoiler tags.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entries
'Buttons' to add a "Comment" or a "Review", when viewing entry
would be nice.
Search
The "Refine" 'button' for sorting through the categories, should be
on a separate bar / line just under the "Category" or the entry's
Title bar (it could be placed next to an "Edit this entry"
'button'). Perhaps this new "Edit / Refine" bar could be a lighter
shade of green than the Category / Entry bar, which may make the
black text contrast much better than the "Refine" text on the
"Category" bar currently does.
How about an option to search for material by date range?
How about a rating system, to find the best TFs quickly?
I'd like a filter that only displays results with images and/or
links.
I like the idea of placing the year "categories" at the bottom of
the Categories list, so I don't have to scroll down so far just to
get to the other categories.
Icons / Symbols
What happened to those little icons the old site had? The ones that
quickly informed us what type of transformation(s) was(were)
present. - Paul has already addressed this one on the site FAQ
page.
What about adding little symbols that let us know if the entry
contained pictures, links, reviews, comments, etc... maybe like one
or two letters?
Editing
How about placing the "Edit this Page" button on a separate bar /
line just under the entry's Title bar?
How about renaming the "Submit" link to "Submit new entry", so
nobody confuses it with the "Edit this Page" option?
Spoiler Tags
It would be nice to keep the paragraph breaks from being removed
when they fall between the spoiler tags.
Trusted User Stuff
Message Board Posts
It would also be nice to keep and/or add text formatting (sans
color) when "removing" a post.
It would also be nice to have a button or link to "quote post"
(still editable - like for removing links) in the comments box,
when "removing" a post.
Moving Off Topic posts to a new (or existing) thread. With a short
note that the post was moved, by whom, why, and a link to that
thread.
Submissions / Pending Edits
An option to credit someone else when creating or editing a new
entry. For instance I help a guest, the log could show something
like "cj for guest (guest)" or "cj for Eric", instead of just "cj".
It'd give credit where credit is due, and still account for who
actually made the addition or change.
I think I got all the still-pending suggestions / requests to
date... If not, this is the place to list them.
I remember awhile ago there was a picture from the entry for
selected entries. Such as Sexual Chemistry. It had a picture of
Stephanie Lefleur right next to the brief discription, instead of
in the discription once you clicked the title. It would be nice to
see that again.
Do you mean the picture was also seen when viewing a brief summary
of the entry such as in search results or on the "What's New" page?
Or are you referring only to the positioning (or even just
inclusion) of images in the entry itself?
I'm moving this post from another thread - cj
From: guest (me2) , posted on Jul 5 13:39pm
so i am searching for an author. all I remember is her last name
began with a w ( or maybe v-z. my problem, even looking under
gender and books, it can't be easily found. Authors names are liste
first name first most of the timeif they are listed in the
beginning at all, as the title often is listed first.
We need to change this more like the old system where you put the
authors name in a field, the title in another and the type of
transform in a third, and fix the search engine so it can search in
more than one field or phrase. I tried english switch for example
and it searched for that phrase in quotes, Not as two words
anywhere in the page.
That's my hope and suggestion, anyone else have any thoughts on how
to improve the searching of this site?
Navigating 'Metamorphose.org' can sometimes seem like you're
peering into an exclusive 'hands off, users-only!' site. This ISN'T
criticism, just an observation.
I second the suggestion about being able to find entries with
images at the click of a button. Especially for TV shows and
movies.
I'm actually quite pleased with Metamorphose and any suggestions I
could give would be nit-picky at best. Just keep doing what you're
doing.
maybe this and a few other threads should be locked at the top like
some other lists do so they can be found easily when needed, or in
a subsection clickable at the top like a folder for rules and
suggestions?
I found the story I wanted by googling pauls old list and it sent
me to the other transformation list (it's in the links but the name
escapes me at the moment.
So maybe offering a google search of the site in addition to the
current search engine might be helpful as a backup seach engine
option?
and putting more details on the submission page to list author or
title first, whichever is chosen to be the standard might be
helpful
this is confusing :
REPLACE this text with entry NAME
Categories:Misc Transformation, Movie
cant we improve it like this:
Name_________
Author_________
Year published______
Categories (click the options that apply)
---(and then list them!!!)---
and so on.
It's much clearer and easy to follow! Not everyone can figure out
how to do this for example
REPLACE this text with entry NAME
Categories:Misc Transformation, Movie
(And that would hopefully save a lot of entry corrections the fine
editors here have to make!)
see it fooled me again!
I posted the bold big letters as regular sized with equal marks
around them as copied from the submit page and it came out
different from what i wanted.
if it actually looked like that (big and bold) on the page it could
work! But as it is it is tough for non experienced html savvy
submitters to understand. the word categories appears 3 times oon
the same entry line, for example.
The site auto-formats your post the equal signs signify the heading
type. That's why it posted the way it did.
Okay, that said... I'm NOT going to negate or cancel your
suggestions - they're valid and what this thread is about. I'm just
going to give you a bit of info that may or may not be helpful.
In the submission box, the word "Categories:" is followed by the
beginning and end tags (code) that "bookmark" the "on the fly"
categories. It's how we can have so many transformation categories.
The ability to have such open category listings is also the reason
that there is no list of categories to choose from. It allows one
to enter something new if needed.
Not every entry will have an author, some are not published,
they're aired... some entries also use season and episode... or
issue number. So sometimes trying to make the wording less
confusing actually creates more confusion.
In the interim, while Paul continues to develop the site, there IS
a nice representation of different entries... with examples, right
below the submission box. I've changed the formatting a little to
help with readability. Let me know if it's better or worse, or if
it could be better. Right now, it's the best way to help out with
submissions.
I should note that you should be able to copy and paste the example
code (or the code from another, similar, entry) into the submission
box and edit it before previewing and submitting.
And don't worry about making a few mistakes... that's why there's
an option to edit the entries. Even I still make mistakes when
submitting new material or editing an entry. :-)
That's a good idea.
Another thing that annoys me is that when browsing on the site a
list of your previously visited pages is displayed at the top. This
is absolutely useless, as every browser already includes this
feature. And it transforms the URLs into big blobs of "nonsensical"
characters that you can't post in the forum.
If this feature is to be kept, there should at least be a
link-to-this-page link on every entry.
And while I'm typing, I realize that I sometimes whish to see the
previous posts in preview to know if someone else slipped in
between me and the message I want to reply to.
I would like to see the ability to vote for and rate (out of five
stars?) entries in the categories list, with the option to sort by
ranking, so you have a permament "what is the best...." feature.
|
it is just a bit weird to see some things listed by title , then
author,
other things listed by author, then title,
and then tv shows listed by either episode name or series name,
etc.
Ideally the site should be sortable (and searchable) by title,
author/creator, category, & year made to be most effective to
everyone.
maybe at least a note on the submission page to put the title first
then a space for author if it applies with last name first like a
library does it, and then a space for subtitles or other
identifying info?
If possible though it may be to much of a hassle, maybe set up a
gender catagory so that one could easily find either male or female
tf's. Right now the "male" or "female" catagories only provide m2m
or f2f body swaps. I merely suggest on easier way for people to
find transformations based upon a particular gender.
>>> "... Right now the "male" or "female" catagories only provide m2m
or f2f body swaps..."
To me "Male" has always meant m2m, "Female" has always meant f2f,
and "Gender" has always meant either m2f or f2m.
I don't think that we'd necessarily need to change the "Male" and
"Female" categories, but it's a possibility (and possibly a ton of
work)... as for the "Gender", it can only be changed manually,
entry by entry (we don't know which way or both, that the TF went).
Some visitors / viewers / users of the site have already
supplemented the "Gender" with either "Male to Female", "Female to
Male", or both - as appropriate to that entry.
Feel free to pitch in and help ( Edit this Page
).
If you'd like an example, try selecting Categories
- Male to Female
or Female to Male
- select an entry (such as "Tiffany Twisted") - History
- then View
on any line that indicate a change such as "Adding Male to Female"
or "Adding Category" (or in the case of "Tiffany Twisted", "adding
additional information"). You'll be able to see the text that was
added (in green), or changed (in yellow), and the entry's text and
code/coding just as it is viewed when editing the entry (so you'll
know where to make the change(s)).
Hope that's of some help... and thanks, in advance for helping add
all the m2f / f2m gender information.
