in response to the above, a couple of thoughts...
1 they ought to show the movie after a marathon of all the prior
disney shows bodyswap episodes, like the Jessie ep mentioned above
featuring the star of the show.
2 While most disney shows throw logic to the wind, (as do many
other shows on other networks to be fair) the current series Girl
meets World has superbly written episodes that both adults and
children can enjoy. Although there is no school in the world like
their school, and they are usually taught in the father's class
every season. But the parents are pretty smart and the characters
are all well developed.
Speaking of well developed, and keeping this response on target,
the mother played by Danielle Fishel, is someone I would like to
bodyswap with for a while....
What do you say Disney? Call me!

Dang it... now I'm off-topic.

I can't imagine this movie exploring any new ground of gender
dynamics since It's a Boy/Girl Thing but at least the girl is
really cute. When I was in the 8th grade all the boys had to read a
Judy Blume books and all the girls had to read (his equivalent?) It
would be interesting if this movie broke some new ground but I'm
sure it'll be "boys are sloppy but sports take talent / girls have
a lot of pressure to be neat and good students"

guest, you should read the book
that this movie is based on.
While it does have a bit of that same old story to it, there's more
to it and it deals not just with the differences between a boy's
and a girl's world, but these two specific characters, their
emotions and feelings of their specific stories, and also on just
how much our lives are / can be the same. IIRC, it also recounts a
bit about the mental / emotional state of being that age and
growing into your own person.
Then again, it's a Disney adaptation. I'm not sure that they ever
stick with the nuances of the source material.

@post #23 (guest): I don't think in the movie they are in the 8th
grade. Peyton List, the lead actress is 18.

"I don't think in the movie they are in the 8th grade..."
I don't think that they can capture quite the same character
dynamics, growth and discovery with older characters (in the movie)
as the book did with the 7th and 8th grade characters. So I really
hope that they don't just destroy the story with their alternative
choices.

If I'm not mistaken I think I heard that they both are playing
middle school students.

I have never heard of 18 years cast as middle school students.
I'd imagine it would be easier to adapt the story to high school
rather than try and convince an audience these young adults are in
the 7th grade.

High school age characters are regularly played by 20-somethings (I
think one of the Wayan brothers' parodies joked about that) so I
wouldn't put it past them to pass off an 18yo as a Jr. high
schooler. Probably, though, if they don't specifically make them
high-schoolers they'll just leave it unstated as to what their ages
are and leave it to the audience to choose what they wanna believe

Dawson casting
Rachel McAdams was born in 1978 and was 24 when she was in The Hot
Chick and 26 in Mean Girls. She played a high school girl in those
movies. Another actor that's a good example of Dawson casting is
Eric Christian Olsen. He played a high schooler in 2009 in Fired
Up. He was born in 1977.James Duval played Frank/the bunny in
Donnie Darko in 2001 and he was born in 1972 LOL. He was a high
schooler in the movie.

TV by the Numbers broke this news today. We have a date for the
movie!
“The Swap,” starring Peyton List of “Bunk’d” and Jacob Bertrand of
“Kirby Buckets,” will premiere Friday, Oct. 7 on Disney Channel,
the Disney Channel app and on demand. You’re reading it first at TV
by the Numbers.
The movie is part of Disney’s “Monstober” programming that will run
throughout October.
“The Swap” follows friends Ellie (List) and Jack (Bertrand), who,
after a text argument over whose life is tougher, find themselves
mysteriously inhabiting each other’s bodies. They each have to
navigate their new lives and figure out a way to reverse the swap
in time for two big events: a rhythmic gymnastics championship for
Ellie and hockey tryouts for Jack.

That's very different from the book plot. Ellie and Jack were two
strangers who meet and hit it off. They're both dealing with
personal issues (Ellie has been abandoned by her cruel best friend
and her father has left the family; Jack's mother has died and his
father has become distant and dictatorial). When Jack jokingly
suggests they should switch lives, the mysterious school nurse
makes his 'wish' come true.

Some tiny new plot details. The swap happens because of a text
argument and Jack (as Elle) experiences a "spa day"
