Maybe but I'd argue that you don't need a spine at all, let the biologists worry about blood supply to the brain and drugs to stop the body from rejecting the new head. Let the physicists work on the spine. Robotic limbs and direct Brain - computer interfacing is advancing extremely quickly, I say use an AER bridge (brain spike), but rather then the robot moving motors have it fire signals into the lower spine.

The issue is that there is more research into controlling robots with an organic brain then there is controlling the organic body with a robot brain. But research does exist, one day a device will exist that would allow you to remote control a humans body and disconnect their brain. Then the two devices will be combined so the brain controls the computer controlling the body, that way if wireless communication keeps developing your brain could sit in a jar and have its body wonder about outside, well anywhere there is wireless Internet access.

The future will be a weird and wacky place the way sciences are currently developing. To thing a month ago a human baby born to three parents seemed impossible, and now it's happening.

Maybe. The two-year hype is way unrealistic though.

Predictions about medical technology: from about 1970 to about 1995, the constant promise for type 1 diabetics was that in less than five years, a closed-loop implanted artificial pancreas (actually more like a fully-automatic implanted insulin pump) would be widely available. It never happened. Non-implantable insulin pumps that don't monitor glucose at all: those are common now. They're rather a nuisance and not vastly better than careful use of injected insulin and insulin analogs with slightly different actions.

I'd say not to expect anything fancy and not quickly.

"I'd say not to expect anything fancy and not quickly."

I DEMAND full-body (brain) transplants into custom-designed bodies before I die!!!

:-)

I like the oxymora, I demand something that may lead to immortality, before I die...

From: cj , 111 months, post #8
LOL - glad someone caught that. Though I was more waiting for the "You can have it done now... and death will soon follow." line of thought.
