"... on the subject of legal issues, does anyone think this film
itself might possibly face one?"
Okay, now I feel like I missed something important. What are you
referring to regarding possible legal issues?
"Was snippy sarcasm really needed here?"
If I was being sarcastic, I would have noted it. How can they know
what the movie is about, and that links weren't already provided,
unless they've been (at least somewhat) following the threads (here
and/or elsewhere)? It was a legitimate question, although meant to
be more rhetorical, than needing to be answered.
Yeah, I might have been a bit snippy. I'm getting old and
cynical... tired of watching the decline in respectable personal
attributes of patience, respect, honesty, and effort (work). Seems
everyone increasingly wants something for nothing, and to have it
catered to them right now. Sometimes I feel like we're heading down
the path to our own destruction. But, I have hope. Perhaps a
(metaphorical) smack in the face, from time to time, is just what
the world / people need to rise above the "it's all about me"
attitude. I'm not saying that our guest poster IS
one of those people who tend to irk me... but they sure did a good
facsimile IMO. /rant

I'm not trying to hate or start a war but can we be honest for a
lil bit? The acting in this movie judging by the trailer is maybe
softcore porn quality at best. I'm sorry but there is a reason why
this movie hasn't been released yet. The quality is just not there
so it's gonna take everything from the producers and marketing
companies to get this film available to people. Look at Natalie
Knepp's resume on IMDB. She hasn't had that much success or
mainstream exposure. She's been in b movies or very very indie
movies and guest star bits on tv shows. I'm not saying she's trash
but you have to set your expectations to the quality that is being
given out. I'm curious to see the movie but at the end of the day,
we have to be honest about our expectations of the quality of the
movie.

acting is like beauty. It's in the eye of the beholder. It's all
about perception. The acting in the trailer to me was fine
considering this is a comedy with a bit of magic thrown in
and doesn't require the actors to give a dramatic performances

Sorry if I'm repeating myself (I'm sure I mentioned this before but
don't want to go through 12 pages) and hence sorry for making it
clear what I meant but from what I've seen of the snippets of
footage from the trailers, the story of a guy waking up on the
morning of an important meeting at work and having to pretend he's
his own female cousin at it because his body's been mysteriously
changed is the plot of almost all of the 13 Lalola series.
From where the plot of the movie seems to be going after that from
what I can tell seems to also be where most of the Lalola series
ended up except I think Chile, Portugal, Indonesia and India (sort
of).
I'm sure it's most likely a co-incidence (in the same way that the
movies Event Horizon and Sunshine had almost identical plots, if
the makers of Sunshine had known, I'm sure they would have changed
it) but given that that it's hard if not impossible to prove a
negative ... even though I think it's unlikely anything will happen
but there's always the chance that a copyright issue came up
because the plot is so similar to the basic premise of Lalola is
what I'm referring to.
Obviously though, I haven't seen the whole film, just going off the
trailers and what people have implied about the direction of where
the film heads. So, is it really similar all up or does it end up
deviating a lot?

@cj Whoa there, where did all that come from? That is not a good
defense sir! The old have been bemoaning the wayward youth as long
as humanity has been around. Its a logical fallacy grounded in fear
and conservatism. It's the attitude of those who defend hatred (in
the form of laws, discrimination, and harassment) against
transgenderism, LGBT, and other issues they don't understand. In
the end, saying that we will destroy ourselves because of the
morals of the young today... it boils down to fear of things that
are different than the way it was in the time and place where you
grew up. We certainly have important growth to do as a civilization
and as a species in the face of growing populations approaching the
limit of available resources... Implying that your reactice and
defensive post on a fetish forum is part of that progress seems a
bit silly, no?
And regarding Sam... The story is enough of a trope that there's no
way a legal challenge could succeed regarding a stolen storyline.
Also, with Sam being such a small production there's no way it
would be worth it to attack them.
As far as the acting and quality of production, everyone following
the film here closely is likely well aware. It is what it is. Do
you go to a local community theater production and complain that
they didn't have the budget of a Broadway play? Its all about the
subject matter here.

I saw the movie. The acting is arguably good I don't know what's up
with the "soft core porn" comparison. If you ask me that's Megan
Fox's range and she's headlining summer tentpole films.
Natalie Knepp is actually pretty damn great.
The reason why this film hasn't been released yet has nothing to do
with quality. That said, it's on a similar level with Zerophilia
and the market for these kind of films is a little niche. You play
the film festival circuit. That's what they do.

@ fair - this is my last off-topic post in reply to your concern in
post 237... and in reply to post 245
I was not defending myself. I was simply responding to why I was a
bit "snippy". There is no fear or conservative (or liberal) point
of view driving my post, nor did it have anything to do with mores.
You got an honest opinion of human behavior as I've observed
it - past versus present (age is not the issue, some of my
generation are the worst offenders). IMO people don't behavior with
the same respect, nor put forth the same effort that they once did.
Sure, in some cases this is a good thing (when there's more
understanding and respect), but in others, it is not (when people
behave / act with more self-interest and less regard for others).
Perhaps re-read my last paragraph in post 241 and note the words Seems
, feel
, and IMO
(which stands for "In My Opinion
") -- there were no hard facts, just observations, opinions and
feelings. I am human.
The thing is, was post 234's guest ignorant, lazy, looking for
instant gratification, or seeking pirated video... I don't know,
but a bit of common sense, patience, and respect would have probably
prevented that post from being made.
So, I still stand by my decision to post snippy post 235. We're all
human, and prone to errors. And we ALL could stand to have a bit of
sense smacked into us (and a bit self-importance whacked out too)
from time to time. Even me.
I'll now return the thread back to topic.

"And regarding Sam... The story is enough of a trope that there's
no way a legal challenge could succeed regarding a stolen
storyline. Also, with Sam being such a small production there's no

General tropes may not be copyrightable but specifics can be,
that's partly how James Cameron ended up facing a lawsuit from
Harlan Ellison over The Terminator (the production company didn't
want to risk a lawsuit so they paid up and that relatively speaking
wasn't as close as this). From what it looks like, at least the
opening part of this film is actually closer to the original Lalola
than some of its licenced overseas adaptations. I hate to speak ill
of my people but even though various Indian productions are
notorious for copying things without attribution (Mr Ya Miss is
blatantly an unattributed copy of Blake Edward's Switch as just one
example of which there are many) even they must have paid to make a
licenced version with Bhaskar Bhati.
Precisely because they're a smaller independent production is also
why they'd be at least as likely if not more so face legal action
precisely because they don't have a big legal team at their
disposal. I'm sure this is all most likely a big co-incidence but
that in itself wouldn't be a defence (otherwise everyone would be
claiming it in a copyright infringement case).
Anyway, I don't think it would happen but even though I'm sure it's
unintentional, just pointing out a theoretically potential problem
due to the uncanny similarity to the opening of both if they
trailers are anything to go by.

I saw where you can view the entire SAM movie on Youtube but you
have to sign up for a free account but give a credit card number.
Anyone try this?

Wait, what?! Really?! What's the link? And is it a legal link?

Blake Edwards admitted in print that SWITCH was inspired by Goodbye
Charlie. Did he have to pay the George Axelrod estate? You tell me.
The first Lalola was so close to the plot of Switch (much more so
than LLL was to G.C.), even to Lola's red jacket, that the
resemblance is obvious to any first time viewer. Did Dori Media
have to pay Blake Edwards (or the George Axelrod estate)? The idea
of a man changing into a woman by the will of a god is probably
older than the Mahabharata. Ovid (who told the story of Tiresias)
was a latecomer to the plot by those standards. And the idea of
waking up in the morning as something new and strange is very old.
It was famously used by Kafka a long time ago. Could there be a
lawsuit? One can indict a ham sandwich, and probably sue it, too. I
met a writer who claimed that "Groundhog Day" ripped his prior
story off. Anyone who does any plot is really knowingly or
unknowingly stealing from someone in the past. There is nothing
original under the sun and I wish that people with greed in their
eyes would just chill out.

That would obviously be a pirated version. And if you want to give
your credit card information to someone who is making money by
stealing... well that would be up to you.
You may find the price for watching Sam very, very high.

That's why I was asking if it was legal. I know that you can watch
movies on youtube legally (https://www.youtube.com/movies), so I
wanted to make sure that was the case here. If it is pirated, I
definitely don't want to support that and don't want to give that
person any of my personal financial info, no matter how badly I
want to see Sam.

I chatted with the producer and they are currently looking for
distribution. If you pay for a bootleg (which I wouldn't recommend)
you're screwing over the people that took the money and effort to
make the movie

The thing that draws me to want to see this movie the most is how
Natalie Knepp acts as a sexist guy who just got turned into a
beautiful woman unwillingly. Only seen the trailer but you get the
general feel for how she performs out if it. If I woke up as a
woman I can see myself acting and behaving very similar. Slightly
shell shocked at first and analyzing every encounter and
interaction with people, animals, and just everyday common little
things like toilets and how drastically different it is to view
reality through the eyes of a female. I can see myself being
equally goofy as she is in the trailer :)

I just checked out the same youtube video and that link is fake as
heck! They just wanna steal your money and the length of the movie
isn't even correct. I can't say I feel bad for anyone who does give
them CC information for them to steal because this is just as bad
as clicking on a popup that's telling you that you have a virus and
need to protect your pc...

would you be willing to do a start to finish plot summary?
