If you and only a handful of others could impersonate anyone in the
world, and the original was put into suspended animation while you
were them (meaning they could not interfere with your impersonation
and you would have the exact genetic and other identity markers
indistinguishable from the orignal) who would you want to be and
why?
Update: you would get their skill set too- like if the original
played the piano, you could to. You'd also gain memories the longer
you stayed as them, but your core self would remain in tact. Those
skills that you had before would not be overwritten.

I'd prefer to take over the life of a "regular" person for a week
or two. First person I'd impersonate is a female coworker of mine.
She's in her mid 30's, 2 kids and very pretty despite having let
herself go a little bit. I'd be her to see what it's like to be a
mother. The other person's life I'd live is the daughter of my
boss. She's 20 years old, in great shape, very pretty and very
petite. I suspect she may be a little bit of a slut too. I'd like
to be her to just be able to party and see what it's like to be
someone who's only 5' tall.

I love this question and the idea of inserting myself into the life
of a regular person as the previous post mentioned. I'd love to be
my ex-girlfriend, mostly because I think she is very pretty and
because of my familiarity with her life and job- her friends, her
protective family and her popularity. It would be great to wear the
clothes as well- but perhaps the greatest satisfaction might be in
knowing that I was denying her all of those things.

I'd hate myself for feeling like I'm stealing someone else's life
experience... but I'd also hate myself for passing up this
once-in-a-lifetime chance... and perhaps only possible way to
experience life as a girl.
I could go for so many celebrities. If I could go back in time and
do this... or be sent back as a past someone - it would be all the
more exciting - and difficult to choose. Perhaps one of the fine
ladies from this list: http://celebs.allwomenstalk.com/25-smartest-celebrities
Just for fun though... I might try some time as Miley Cyrus or
Selena Gomez... Or someone going through a crisis like Lindsay
Lohan or Amanda Bynes.
And still... I'd feel torn.

CJ - are there any lives in the past or present other than celebs
that you would like to experience? A classmate? A coworker? A
crush? Someone you look up to? And would the outfits have anything
to do with your choice?

If one isn't becoming a copy of someone famous, there's no need for
the suspended animation and replacement, provided that creating a
fake new identity is possible. Find an intelligent, attractive
person in modest but comfortable circumstances and become a
duplicate living a few thousand kilometers away, maybe on another
continent.
Okay, creating a fake identity in Atlanta for a local guy who's
becoming a copy of a hot redhead girl from Perth (Australia or
Scotland) might be tricky, but suspended animation isn't easy to
pull off, and if the new girl wants to stay herself there'd be no
need to murder her original.

I think the attraction here might be having what they have- perhaps
all the circumstances are as important as the looks. It seems like
the post is intended to waive the typical complexities and see who
people would want to be.
There are more than a few people that I'd like to try being and
knowing that the original could be restored removes some - not all
- of the guilt associated with wanting it.
For me, deliberately wanting to be someone else means having all of
their circumstances. Whether she is a single parent having to be a
glorified taxi or a girl with a health condition requiring constant
attention, it's the details and complexities, not just the body,
that are desirable.

Sure, plenty of them. All of the above (except for the "look up
to"). Sometimes.
Imagine getting a glimpse into the past. The stench and discomfort
of medieval or wild west days... being a part of the ancient Roman,
Egyptian, Persian, Ottoman, Mongolian, Aztec or Incan empires...
Being around in Feudal Japan or Victorian England... Maybe being a
Flapper during Prohibition, or a resistance fighter in one of the
WW's... Being a 1950's American wife & mother. Yeah, the list is
quite long.
Most of those scenarios though, I'd be hoping for just a temporary
stay.

It's the identity usurpation aspect of this that interests me -
being able to slip into someone else's life entirely unnoticed and
fool their closest friends and family is what I'd want to do. I
could see myself jumping from one quite normal identity to the
next, staying a few days - or more - enjoying their life then
moving on to try someone different.

I'd love to be:
Business woman- petite but stunningly beautiful. Lots of coworkers
all eager to do me favors.
A cosplay girl with a huge fan base eager to see me at a convention
in my latest costume creation.
A college coed sharing a dorm room with another girl- so I can you
know borrow clothes and maybe replace my roommate...
Who do you all want to be?
