With Pride coming up next month I've started reading more LGBTQIA
news pages and came across this

Shouldn't there be an "S" in LGBT so straight people can be
included? I mean we humans are suppose to be champions of equality
and inclusiveness right?

No, now it's a "Q" for Questioning.

That doesn't seem very tolerant and compassionate to me. This is
2014. We are suppose to be equality, tolerance, and empathy.
Excluding straight people from LGBT definitely hurts their cause.

Guest #2 -- To add an "S" in LGBTQIA, you simply identify the
expanded group as "people" or "persons" without a qualifier.
Guest #3 -- Nope. Q is for those who are not sure. Most of those
who are straight, either have no question... or are already past
the questioning.
Guest #4 -- What doesn't seem very tolerant and compassionate,
exclusion of "straight" persons from the LGBTQIA community?
If so, I believe that I began to answer that above. For your
argument to have merit, you would have to show lack of compassion
and tolerance from the LGBTQIA community for those who choose only
heterosexual relationships.
It seems that you are trying to argue that ALL people should be
INCLUDED in the LGBTQIA community regardless of their preference in
partners. That would be like saying that all people should be
members of Mensa, regardless of their IQ; or that all people should
be included in the American Legion, regardless if they served in
the US military or not; or that all people should be allowed to be
a Girl Scout, regardless of age or gender.
A community exists because a GROUP of people share some common
thing(s), location, interest(s), thought(s) / goal(s) that other
people may not. A community is both inclusive and exclusive by
definition.
IMO - Since history has indicated that most people are "straight"
and that most people do NOT share in the common goals of the
LGBTQIA community (tolerance of "other than straight"
relationships), the inclusion of "straight" people (as a whole /
group) into this community would be impossible - as they do not
share the same goal.
(Mod Notes - this appears to be a troll thread... but, I'm giving
it the benefit of the doubt. If it continues to look like a
troll-fest, feel free to shut it down.)

Lol If your going to be picky it would be LGBTTTIQQ (Transgender
Transexual Transvestite Questioning Queer) if straight people want
a letter then claim one. We call it the alphabet soup anyway.
If your on this site surely Q is enough as it is generally
recognised as Queer, which includes all fetishes.

Missed A for Alley, often used, but add a S if you wish ;)

I always read the "Q" as "queer" rather than "questioning",
Wikipedia includes LGTQQ as a variant mant to clear up that
confusion, but It may just be that my reading is obsolete.
Its funny how a sense of privilege creeps into your mind. I've had
some pretty vicious arguments with L and G folks about whether the
T ought to be appended. A dear friend, who was lesbian separatist
until her child came out as trans, can tell stories about the
unease that prevailed in the early "Lesbian and Gay Men's Alliance"
groups, and the resistance to the addition of those fence-sitting B
foiks to the initialism.
Now when I see it rendered to include intersexual and asexual
folks, I find myself wondering if all of these different groups
really do have common causes -- which, of course, is what the
cisqueer folks asked about the genderqueer folsk when we tried to
join the party,
I am, however, still surprised to see a series about a
science-fictional/magical involuntary sex-change is being openly
promoted by an LGBT new site. {old lady voice}in my day we were
doctrinaire and rigidly idealogical about things. we wouldn't have
reported on mere entertainment. we wouldn't talk about any art,
unless it was intended to teach important lessons about the crimes
of the patriarchy!{/old lady voice}

I know but that's a good thing right? In some countries we are on
the cusp of equality, sadly in others we can still face beatings,
imprisonment or execution.
The more letters added the sooner in includes everyone androgynous
to BDSMists, LG already can live without stigma and get married and
raise children, but babies with both female and male reproductive
organs still (as far as I'm aware) have their genders alained as
female with no say in the matter, if female genital mutilation is
so fround upon (and rightly so) why to people still allow intersex
genital mutilation?
I agree 100% that we don't all have the same causes, but one we do
share historically is acceptance and equality. So while LG people
have won it in some communities, its not the world and for the rest
its better to fight together for the big cause then separate for
those that are specific.
In my opinion anyway.
I guess ideally it would not be LGBTQIA it would just be Q and that
if we are truly honest even the most religious dogmatic right wing
idealist is a Q as they will have some secret they feel would be
unaccepted in their community, even if its just a desire for their
wife to put them in handcuffs.
It's a slow journey, but one day everyone will be accepted, as long
as no ones rights are lost in the process of equality the progress
will always be good.

"It seems that you are trying to argue that ALL people should be

Doeshat mean that it is ok to form a group only for straight
peoiple, no gays allowed?
Or a group for only white people, no blacks allowed?
or a group for only men, no women allowed?
Why is it ok for a "minority groupe exclusive but the majority
cannot?
Women are always willing to sue 'man's clubs' over discrimination
but men are forbidden to sue women's ggroups for discrimination.

Yes. And many of these types of groups already exist. They are
groups, subsets, of people. People who share common background,
location, and/or interests. They are EXCLUSIVE by nature/design.
As long as they are not spreading or acting in hate or violence,
and as long as they are respectful and tolerant of others who do
not share the groups' commonalities... then I really have no
problem with them.

Anyone can join a LGBT group, they don't have an entrance policy.
Your view highlights the fact you haven't tried.
